Have you made something that you use all the time?

A couple of years ago I made a hammock for camping.I used marine rope because it's heavy duty and doesn't breakdown in the weather.I had wanted something that could be easily carried in a backpack and hung quickly.I got sick of seeing it in the storeroom so I handed it to hubby and told him to do something with it.He hung ir from 2 trees at the end of our lawn near the horse pasture. That was 2 years ago.The grankids would swing in it once in a while.I liked it but it lacked something. One day our black lab came from the wooded area behind the house with a 4 foot limb in his mouth.I realized it was bent exactly right to top this hammock off.Well after adding the limb and making a cover for a camping matt and using it as a mattress with it,it's become one of my favorite spots.I can sway in the wind and the horses come to the fence to hang out with me.It's a wonderful spot and to top it off my husband put a 'dead-end' sign near the tree.
Have you made something that you didn't like but later became your favorite?

I think that's fantastic. My mom knitted a hammock once out of slippery nylon. She had to start over many times because if she dropped a stitch the whole thing would come undone. I spent many hours daydreaming in that hammock.
A few years ago I tried to weave a hat, but I couldn't get it into the shape I wanted so I never finished it. Just the other day I realized it would make the perfect hanging planter. So that's what I plan to do with it as soon as I find it.

Your lamps are great.I rated your photo also.I hope you will upload a photo of your hanging planter for us.I make use of so many things because I have a hard time throwing things away that are not used up.I'm not a run to Walmart for a new one type of person. Thanks for the response.Hug

I've made the scented candles also.A quick easy way to make a cheap candle scented is buy the scent you like and add a drop to the top of the plain candle..not on the wick.Let it set for a day then burn.Or if you are at all crafty buy your oil and wax.I wish I was closer..we would make a bunch of them for you so you would never run out.I would teach you lots of wonderful simple crafts.

you know, sitting here and thinking about it, I do not think there is a single thing that I made that we use all the time - or at all for that matter - seems that everything I make I make with the intention of giving it away. I do however use a the dishclothes my little girl crocheted for me, every day. I love them!

you are very wise!
I make things for the kids and for the beloved husband - for my family and for my friends, I just never think of making for myself... oh I take that back! I made slippers for my daughter but I am the one who wears them all the time! I guess that qualifies , huh?
thank you for honoring me with the response rating! I do appreciate it.

I can imagine how heavenly now it is for you to be swinging in the hammock. I am not one to DIY anything myself.
The only things which I made and used are those that I made when I was having my technical practicals for wood work and metal work. The things I remembered are spade, little hammer and candle stand. They are useful tools but now have been discarded as they have corroded even though I had painted it :P

Well, as a kid I use to make christmas presents for my family. grandparents, aunts and uncles included. One year I made pot holders for everybody, another year I made candles. When my brother was 4 years old he painted rocks and called them pet rocks and gave them as a Christmas gift. I can't think of anything that I have made and still use.

My house is full of things that we have all made and use..about 20 years ago the kids and I wanted a larger book shelf..We built it. It is 6 feet long and 5 feet high...and 1 foot deep..and it is still standing...People comment on it all the time..It is just a nice functional item and overflowing with books..we all love books..

Most of the stuff that I have made that we use all the time is kitchen stuff. We have crocheted potholders that we use a bunch, and my fiance has a crocheted placemat that he loves. I also made crocheted ice cream cozies, so that we can eat our ice cream straight out of a pint container. Those are very useful!

Hey Doll..
Cute idea..
I was at a birthday party awhile back when the man recieved a cute little crochet item as a joke..It was a long tube with 2 small ponches hanging off the top..
A small group laughed like crazy so apparently there was a private joke that went with the gift! Not nearly as useful as an ice cream cozie!
