My husband watches all these car and motorcycle shows where they do flames and all kinds of neat stuff with air brush kits. Now he wants to try it. In my shopping around, I've seen kits from under $10 to $500 and I have no idea what all he might need. It all looks expensive and there are so many things! I would like to know just what a beginner needs to start with. Then if he likes it we can go from there.

For the beginer try a "Badger"airbrush kit. The compresser costs the most out of the "set-up".The way to offset the cost is to use a spare tire,or air tank for the air flow. But then you have to go to the gasstation alot if you spray very much.Buying the compressed air in a can isn't that cheap,so use an old tire. Then, alot of trial and error, and you will become a airbrusher-graffittiartist.

Thanks, Jesse. Sounds like you know what you are talking about!

Metaphorically or realistically? As long as it produces air through a hose, and not a fish tank compresser, the psi(pounds per square inch)has to be over 10 or 20psi,otherwize you dont have enuff pressure to push the paint.

P.S. Can any kind of air compressor work? Or does it have to be a special kind?

Well perhaps the best thing would start off well...hehehe..on the cheap end of it...I mean it would be kind of silly to spend a lot of money if maybe your husband turns out not to have the real skill for airbrushing--or is he artistic? And who knows he might get bored with it...and not want to do it any longer--

He is artistic, however, his hands are very shaky, now, so I don't know how well he will be able to work. I got him some pinstriping material. I think we will start with that!

My daughter bought her kit at Pearl arts and crafts store. They were very helpful in finding out exactly what she wanted to do and going from there. Before you buy anything, pick up some of the air brushing magazines. They have how-to articles and tips on what paint to use.

better get iwata brand...HP-C around $210.,but yes its quite expensive....its excellent for auto graphics...or try HP-BCS around $130-140,its a bottom feed and its very flexible working with any angle rather than HP-C which is top feed...i recommend iwata bcoz its parts are stainless and can hold those strong autopaints . by the way you also need a good compressor, which can be used with high pressure.
