I've really wanted a puppy for a while, we already have a 3 yr old black lab-pit mix we rescued named Marley. Our local freecyclers group often has posts for then and I found someone with pit mixed puppies. So I picked up a female the runt of the litter, she's absolutely adorable. I named her Chouli like the end of the word patchouli. Well I really thought that Marley would take to the pup like it was her own and she is still acting afraid of the 8wk old maybe 4.lb puppy. To help this situation we figured we would go pick up one of Choulis' 9 other sisters and brothers. Figuring they could grow up together and be playmates and as they get bigger with Marley. I'm starting to think I've lost my mind, getting a second pup. I'm very excited though I love animals and would probably have a house full. Oh, my son the newest pup Pepper. So now I need so advice, tips, anything! If you've brought home a new puppy to a bigger dog or older dog how do you help them to feel more comfortable together. Anyine raising two puppies at the same time or raising a puppy or puppy training. I've always adopted dogs from the shelter, but never a puppy. My family and 3dogs thank you in advance!!

Congratulations to the new additions to your family. It can be tough getting an older dog to become more comfortable around newer animals but it can be done. It will take awhile for them to become used to each and it won't happen over night either. One of my dogs had a litter of 6 puppies born in March and at the same time we had another female in the house. We kept everyone seperated but when the puppies were abour 3 to 4 weeks old we let them socialize with the other female. The first few times they were together it was rough because she would growl at them and then mama dog would get involved but eventually everyone got along. The puppies are now over 8 weeks old and while there is only two puppies left that we decided to keep everything is fine. The other female will now play with them to an extent but she will actually defend them from their mom if she gets playing too rough. The only advice I can give is to just let time take care of everything and bring them together slowly. It will happen though.
