I do not have a tattoo, so I can only state here what I 'think' are reasons that folks get tattoos. I had a friend who got a tattoo of her child's name after her child passed away. I had another friend who got a dolphin tattooed on her leg as she is avid about saving dolphins and works in dolphin research. Many I think just get the tattoos as a form of self-espression. As for removing a tattoo, it can be done with laser treatment. This is very costly and sometimes, if not done by someone that knows what they are doing, can leave scars.

I'll answer the getting rid of first...you can get rid of them but only by expensive laser treatment which is why people should be really sure of what they want.
I have a bunch of tattoos...too many to list here and they all have special meaning to mean. I put art on my body the way others hang it on a wall...I believe my body is a bare canvas waiting to be decorated, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

i got a tattoo because i found a beautiful pic that i wanted. it was a gift from my boyfriend..since he couldnt afford jewelry (lol).
ive never done ANYTHING just because it was a fad. thats just stupid..especially if its something permanant like a tattoo.
unless you can afford to have the tat removed by laser..its there forever.

I have five tattoos so far, and plans for many more. I think that some people do get tattoos because it is trendy, but in my case, it is definitely for the sake of art. Some of the tattoos I plan to get will be modeled after famous works of art, in fact. I like being able to have my skin decorated, and have it say a little bit about me.
