I was on the M9 Motorway this morning going from Stirling to Grangemouth roughly 10 miles, I wanted to take something back to the Asda supermarket and the motorway is the best way to go . I usually take the long way round ( the scenic route) as I love to drive, It was pouring rain this morning and quite cold and windy ( usual Scottish summer weather lol ) but the drivers were driving like maniacs, I was doing about 50 and they were all flying past me,all staying in the outside ( overtaking lane ) the cars were aqua jetting as the rain was so heavy but the were all sitting at the back of each other with only a car length between them . I counted 8 in a row at one time,
Why do people risk their lives and the live of other and drive like this,
I have heard someone say better being 5 minutes late in this life than 5 minutes earlier in the other .
I am a really good natured person and it really takes a lot to get me angry, but I do not understand people driving about 70 MPH at one cars length from the car in front of them,

I am now convinced this is a world wide phenomenon, because the minute it starts raining I always say to my husband we must get of the road because people go crazy on the road when weather conditions deteriorate. I think they all get water on the brain!

I don't understand that too, but from what I've understood I feel that people get a feeling that once they know driving well enough and they have a good control over their vehicle, they are never going to have an accident. But the fact is that 99% of the accidents take place when a driver is overconfident and hardly any accidents happen when a driver is learning or is not confident.

Yes, You are right. Me and my husband aer very much careful in driving because it's our life out there. But there are some people who will just drive without any concerns to other peoples life. If they want to endanger their lives then don't take somebody with them. Though we are careful and good drivers, there's more Stu**d drivers roaming around, beating the red lights, overtaking without even using signals, driving above the maximum speed limit. I hope one day, they will realize that our life is more important than agressive driving.

i have to agree with you there, im not in a big city but the other day we went down to sydney and we were going the speed limit and cars were still over taking up and thats when no rain etc, but when it was raining we slowed right down and they went round us like we were snails. i dont see what the rush is, i would prefer my life and be safe and sound and be late than still be late and either die or be in hospital or lose someone special because of me in a rush

I agree with you here, Weemam. My village is a few yards from the A23, main London to Brighton road. In some places, this has three or four lanes, but in others, mainly where there's woodland which cannot be removed, it goes down to two lanes. Cars come careering up the middle and outside lanes of three, and suddenly find themselves having to merge. Do they wait until it's safe to cut in? Nooooooo, the pull right in front of you bumper and don't even indicate... then there's a race up the Handcross Hill because it would be a sin if the outside lane was moving more slowly, wouldn't it? My goodness, such a thing would never be heard of with out four-wheel drives!!! So, they end up weaving in and out, pushing at each others' back bumpers and what happens? Cars run out of road, and end up, upside down in the woods, or smacked up against a tree. There are sooooo many accidents up there, that emergency vehicle sirens are often constant here, especially when the rain starts and the road is greasy. Why do they do it??? Well, you tell me... they've got to be crazy!
Brightest Blessings my friend and do drive safely. x

Because they want to show off, because they think accidents only ever happen to others or because they don´t even think. I don´t think it has anything to do with lack of time. If it did , that would mean that the whole of Spain is always lacking in time or worried about being late, lol.
I´ve been involved in a serious car accident a couple of years ago because of somebody driving like there´s no tomorrow. I can´t understand this behaviour. It´s stupid and immature.
Drives me crazy, lol.

I do not like driving in the rain. What if the person driving behind you has bad brakes? I also like ot drive, but in bad weather I try to stay home and read a good book or watch television.

I agree, saw very similar driving when I was on the M1 between Derby and Sheffield on Monday, pouring down with rain, gusty winds and people driving like their house is on fire. Even driving like maniacs past accidents, etc. Working in operating theatres and seeing the results of accidents first hand just makes it all the more absurd that people die from horrific injuries for no real reason.

I have a funny story about this same type of thing. My husband is one ofthose people that drive people like you and I Nuts! He drives so fast all the time, he cuts people off and is a very rude driver.
We were going to my parents house, they live about 55 miles away and we left at the same time from a local gas station. He was driving about 80-90 miles per hour, and I was driving exactly the speed limit which is 75, I set my cruise control and while he passed me fairly quickly, I could see him most of the way down. I would lose him from time to time but for the most part, I would catch him every 20 miles or so. By the time we got to the city where my Parents live I could not see him. We came into the town and started hitting traffic lights.
I was coming up to the turn and up ahead I saw my husband turn down the street. I was right behind him!
This goes to show that going 10-15 miles an hour over the speed limit really doesn'y make a huge difference. If one person has to stop at a signal it can take away the lead they had all together!
I found this funny. Also I explained to my husband thata 15 mile an hour difference sucks up 25% more fuel, and if you wreck the car can be more damaged by far. The speed limits are actually figured by road safety conditns.
He sees things a little different now! Go us Safe drivers!

I know exactly what you mean sweets and I think these people should be made to see the results of car traffic accidents! As you know wee my brother was in the traffic police and some of the things he has seen are appaling and so traumatic! I have seen many times that driving a bit slower and steady it doesn't take much longer and is much safer! I think most of these people overestimate their driving abilities and underestimate the danger and just assume that nothing is ever going to happen to them and to be honest they are partly right - it is usually an innocent who is hurt by the actions of these selfish, thoughtless people! Can you tell it annoys me too? xxx

I agree with you I dont understand why people are in such a hurry but I think it has a lot to do with todays society being in such a hurry with everything. Everyone seems to be so busy that they dont have the time to drive slow to get to where they are going but at the same time they are not thinking about their lives or the lives of others.

I think it's because people are in a rush these days. As long as they don't get behind me & start tailgating me, especially with the way cars are mae these days. I drive this relatively large Oldsmobile & I have had that car hit. No traces of getting hit on that car, but the other car was a big mess.
Also, if someone is pushing me instead of going around me, I have been known to slam on the brakes, & then floor the gas pedal & attempting to give poor Mister Tailgeter a heart attack. In the rain, I just go slower & slower, however. I've also considered carrying rocks, opening the window, & flinging one out the window too.
We had this big snow in my area. I was going at a decent speed, but someone went around me to get ahead. The road curves to the left, & there's no guard rail either. Instead of curving left, he went into that ditch where the trees stopped him. I'm sure that if the car was still drivable, because of the weather, he'd need to either call for help, or wait until the snow melted to get himself out of there.

I must admit I drive like a bit of a loony - but never ever in the wet. Aussie roads get so slippery even after just a dollop of rain, it's treacherous.
I try to drive a safe distance from the driver in front. Leaving loads of room just in case of emergencies.
It's been raining quite a lot here today with poor visibility and the emergency services siren has gone off so many times i've lost count. All I can think is that some people are having a really bad weekend. lol

I sure wish I knew!!! Just last week somebody was in a hurry and made a big mess they had a wreck! The power was off for 7 hours and blew up my cable and tv sheese I had to buy another tv. this woman was in a hurry and got in front of the truck and he couldn't control the truck as she pulled front of him so he hit the pole. I ought to make her pay for my tv (LOL) it was her fault. If people would only slow down and things will be better and if they are in ahurry they should have left a little early just my 2 cents. :)

Now that is really just stupidity on the part of the drivers weehun! You carry on driving sensibly and you'll stay alive. Those idiots driving bumper to bumper are, as you say, risking their lives just to save an extra few minutes by driving fast in poor conditions! I went on a defensive driving course years ago from work (they made all us company car drivers do it) and they asked us during the theory session as individuals to say what annoyed us about driving. Several people said they hated it when people tailgated them (i.e. drive so close behind you that you can see the whites of their eyes). The instructor told us the best thing to do in that situation is to pull in to another lane to your left, and let them go past if they're that desperate. Your aim when driving is to get from A to B and to get there alive! Many people on the road are not bothered about their or others' safety so just avoid those drivers. Easier said than done, I get really wound up when I see idiot drivers and also feel quite smug that I have about a million years no claims bonus for being a sensible driver. Here have a hug and forget about those muppets who wound you up hun! xx

For people to drive around as if there is no tomorrow In my opnion there are two main reasons.
They are late and trying to catch up with lost tine.
The other are people who are and always drive with little or no rspect for their live and other live. These lot of people think that they are in control of their vehicle, road and situation. In both cases there is no excuse for such road users.

I admit, I like import cars and would like to race them someday, but in the public where you put yourself and others at risk? No, that's just irresponsible and stupid. If you're going to race like that, go in the raceways specifically for racing.
All these "kids" watch Fast and the Furious and regard it as some sort of racing bible. Well, the reality is, try to pull something off like that in real life, and you'll probably end up 6 feet under.
