My cats definitely recognize their names. They will usually look over when their names are called, but it's up to their mood whether or not they actually come closer. If they are feeling in a cuddly mood and want attention, they will usually run over right away, especially the kitty who just came over as I started typing this! Maybe she knew I was writing something about her??

My cat has her times that she just ignores me,especially when she's doing something she shouldn't be.I love to cuddle with her and she lays on me alot. She's likes to talk to me alot or in cat language I guess.

My cat knows his name, and he comes running when I call him. It's so cute!!! He knows his name better than people think dogs do. LOL No matter where he is or where I am, when he hears his name he comes running. LOL Whoever said cats aren't smart, never had a cat that came when you called him.

i have seven cats and I like to think that they recognize their names, but I actually think that they are coming to me because of the tone of my voice that I use when I call them.I just call my one cat just this moment her name is Kiki, she did come running but so did two of my other cats. There I just tried it on Cherry she looked at me but she also responded when I said stupid in the same tone. I really beleive it is the tone of the voice. Try it yourself.

You know my kitten does not come to his name being called. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old and we named him Fuzzy right away. Well my daughter did anyway. But he still will not come to his name being called. But he comes to a whistle like a dog would. I wonder if he thinks hes a dog.

I doubt he thinks he's a dog. He's probably gotten more reward to the whistle than the name when he's called if that's the case. I have all my cats trained to a whistle and their name so that way I can get all of them or just the one I want. If you want him responding to his name take some time and train him rewarding him consistently with treats. You can also teach him other tricks the same way as well. All it takes is time and patience.

My pets do recognize their names, however they don't always come when called. My girls are more likely to do it than my parents cats, but that is primarily because over half my parents cats were just taken in from the wilds. They do however recognize their names and respond to them, they just don't always come when called. Then again isn't that a cat for you?

I like cat. I have one and his name is Pelludo. Its spanish for hairy. I have it since he was still little. My friend gave me a month after he was born. Cats just makes me smile whenever they do their silly things. I think he recognize his name. He would come to me with his face begging for food:)

My Hunny Bunny knows her name but only comes to me - she is exclusively MY cat. She doesn't even pay attention to anyone else's voice, only mine. I'll say "C'mere, Hunny Bunny" and she trots over happily. I just love my cat so much :)

I have two cats, both since I was about 7 years old (making my cats 10 years old now). Quite simply, one is fat and one is skinny. The skinny one, Sabrina/Bwina, responds to her name (though I have to say it in a certain tone) while the fat one responds both to her name and her sister's name. Honestly, I'm convinced she responds to anything I say in a light, polite tone.
