School does not teach enough. It is up to the parents to also teach at home, what is necessary to live a good life in this world. Too often parents rely on the schools to teach their children everything and they don't do anyting to teach them how to be good people, to be nice and to be honest. I make my daughter write her goals down for the year and then put them on the refrigerator and I make her look at it every day before she leaves the house. I make her clean her room, help clean the house and help me cook. This teaches her responsibility. She also volunteers at my job, this teaches her the value of hard work and money is not so easily given.

It is a concern everywhere I am afraid! We just have to try more at home. I sometimes slip and don't take the time to help my daughter study more, but I try. That is all we can do!

No we as parents need to help teach our children all the time . As parents we have to be able to teach our children things they are not always taught in school , like how we should always be kind to other's even when other's are not alway kind to us . There are lessons we can always teach our children when they ask us a question about what is the right way to do things in life .
Just taking a child with you to do groceries and getting them to help you out can teach them the cost of things and how we learn to budget . There are so many every day things we can teach our children .

i think the best way for kids to obtain more knowledge is through reading. Join the library reading program. Visit the library a few times every week. Pick out a book together and take turns reading a chapter every night. Right now my daughter is reading Winn-Dixie to me. As a treat for finishing the book we are going to rent the movie and pop popcorn and watch it together. I also will keep her working on her math and spelling this summer vacation.

Hello maehan
Learning by doing, there is the best way to improve their knowledge. Give more brain activity to your kid, and let them learn by their self.
Reading can improve their knowledge too.
I usually give my niece puzzle and book, or I let her play with other people and try a thing can make her learn faster.
God bless you

Let a child play. Through play they learn. Give them assignments like a play or game they will like.

I think planning family activities around the school education really helps as well, as helping with experiences etc....
No, school does not teach enough, Teach a child how to read, and how to become interactive in furthering their own learning and studies... and encourage experiences, and take trips, and help expose them to different cultures, religions, and types of people. This will help them learn what they are not learning in school.

How old are your kids? On primary school we didn't have much homework here in example, myself I started to watch quite a lot of discovery channel back then, which I still do today along with animal planet, other discovery packages and national geographic along.
At high school homework became quite a lot although I skipped most on that as I considered it to be of no additional value to be honest. Mainly as time went by I focussed on educating myself along a lot as well through documentary series and reading material.
No kids myself, but I'd probably let them figure it out for themselves on how and what they want to learn.
