What can you say about GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms). I've searched the internet about it and the bad side effects on our health . Sad to say it is now a staple in our table, with the leading brands spearheading . Cereals, rice, spreads, drinks, soya products, wheat, sodas, cookies etc... etc... . I have a new baby and is now adamant in giving her her first food cereal for I've discovered that GMO's are being used by the leading brands, what's funny is that those not so known brands are the ones free of GMO's which is sometimes hard to find in the market. Please give me more insights on this matter.

I'm not afraid of GMO's, and I've a baby too. I think that we should be afraid more of pollution and many other things.
Genetics is a relatively new science, but the controls that
have been developed by FDA and other Institutions are very
stringent and so I'm confident that what is introduced in
the common use and commerce is not a danger for our health.
Of course there are two main problems not to be despised:
1) allergies, you should be aware of the possibility that something in what you are to eat contains antigens of various origin, so it is our duty to read carefully the indications that accompany our food. But we should admit that this is not a new problem, since it was effectively to be considered also when GMO's were not in commerce. For instance think to hormones or antibiotics in meat or vegetables.
2) resistances. If we have a cell genetically modified which has got resistances to an antibiotic, if its genetic material is dispersed in the environment there is the possibility that the informative material of such resistances could be acquired by some environmental microorganism through a process called "transformation", and this could give such bacterium a selective advantage, which could be dangerous for us.
Although, I think that if they are used carefully and responsibly OMG's can be an important solution to many problems, such as food shortages and a way to avoid pollution due to pesticides and other chemical products used in agricolture.
The most important thing to do, of course, is to be informed about pros and cons of such new technologies and to choose always the simplest and most natural way of living.
bye bye!

Truly said opinione.....but GM foods are not harmful....infact they are advantageous.....as dey are in d market as dey provide u extra......dey provide u vid d accines, hormones or antibiotics.......whatever u may consider......those products dat u cant take in oder form.....as for say vaccines......v hav GM babanas, etc vich are a source of vaccines to ur body n thus avoiding the intravenous injections.
Some GM foods are produced in order 2 increase their mineral, vitamin etc content vich again provide u vid the dietary supplements......u mus hav heard of golden rice.....
some GM foods are in order 2 increase resistance among the crop and increase the productivity......
Thus, GM foods are not harmful......though as u know every new techology has some issues associated with it....so does these GM foods have.....
