I've pretty much always worked part-time when my kids were little. I can tell you that the best job ever was one where I worked for my school district. I worked in as a recreation monitor, a teachers aid and then I filled in for school secretary's who were out on leave. I only worked when my kids were in school and I got all the same holidays off as they did and I was always there to pick them up from school.

I'm more or less in the same boat. I have been home for almost 11 years. But I have been forced to stay home due to illness. But we can't afford it anymore so I have to find some part-time work. I know I physically cannot work full-time. I do not tell people of my illness when I go for job interviews, whether they find out on their own, I don't know. I have just been told they found someone who has experience with that specific area of business, or I'm not called for an interview at all.
It is disheartening. Part of the reason is I live in a small town. Also, most businesses here are industrial and I am a secretary by profession. So I am doing my darndest to try and earn some money with my writing. Even there I have been unsuccessful. I have to buckle down, though, and get the job done and have confidence that I will succeed.
Good luck to you in your job search.

I can honestly say from current first hand experience that it's really tough to get back into the working world. I've been a stay-at-home mom since my nearly two year old son was born and now he's in daycare and I'm searching high and low for a job. It's tough to have to pay someone else to take care of my child while I'm not even working. I thought that I'd have no problem finding a job since I have such varied work experience, from warehouse type of work to administrative assistant work. But after 20+ applications filled out, still nothing. I've got my fingers crossed however since I might have an interview with a publishing company coming up next week.
All I can say is, keep trying! You're bound to eventually find a job that suits you and realizes that family comes first. Good luck!
