Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings?

I have seen both in movies and read all the books of each series. But which is better? I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books and couldn't stop reading them for anything but for the Lord of the Rings book I was not very interested. There were too many parts where there was too much detail for such little details. The Lord of the Rings movies, though, are a different story. They are some of my favorite movies. Harry Potter ones are alright but are not as good. But which is altogether better? What do you think?

I have grown up with the Harry Potter books and have throughly enjoyed each one, but they cannot beat the Lord Of The Rings books which I enjoyed and the films that have been made on the books.
Harry Potter is a poor mans version compared to the Lord Of The Rings I'm afraid, it has so much depth and intrigue. Harry Potter is more for the youth, Whereas The Lord Of The Rings is more for the grown ups.

I have also seen and read both the series. I actually liked both the series and feel that the two represent two different genres all together. HP began as children's novels and then matured into a classic fantasy fiction series. LOTR on the other hand is a classic fantasy from the first page. The story does begin a slightly slower pace than HP, but then there is more action and darkness in LOTR than in HP. Also there are many more characters in the novel who are spun together in LOTR.
So from my side, both are great series and I enjoyed both the novels and the movies.
Cheers!

I agree about the books the Harry Potter books are very hard to put down, and the Lord of the Rings books well you just have to pay attention really good to me. The movies I think it is a toss up they are both good. The Harry Potter movies are beginning to leave alot of the content of the book out to be able to make the movies shorter and could be little better but both have awesome graphics and a great cast of characters.

I've read all Harry Potter books and seen all the movies..and I think the books are far better. The movies many a times overlook many things...especially the 4th part..ie. the Goblet of Fire..I think it should have been done in 2 parts..but at the end of the day..I think Harry Potter is far better than Lord of the Rings.
