Milk: Healthy source of calcium or stepping-stone to obesity?

I know a lot of my friends were made to drink milk when we were kids, but my family generally got enough calcium from our vegetables. From what I've read, too much milk, especially early on, can lead to childhood obesity, which translates to adult obesity and the ensuing health concerns. Whole milk has about 150 calories (8 g of fat), 2% has 120 (5 g of fat), 1% has 100 (3 g of fat), and nonfat milk has 85 (0 g of fat). When you think that an adult's recommended daily caloric intake is 2,000-2,500 calories, then just the two servings of whole milk is roughly 12%-15% of that. Is it worth it?

I always buy 2% or less. However I do not drink a lot of it. If we get a gallon it usually goes to waste.I have also avoided a lot of dairy products. I am in great shape. Not fat at all and very muscular. I have never had a broken bone. Personally I think the whole calcium milk kick is a trick to keep the dairy industry alive. But milk just went up so now they can sell less and do less work while showing more profit.

I forgot to mention that humans are the only animal that continues to drink milk after the mothers teet. It can be seen in nature that milk is not necessary for the growth of strong bodies.

It's true, milk in moderation does help with weight loss in most people. I'm talking about the families who serve more than the recommended amount of dairy when no one is underweight. I'm talking 3 or 4 servings a day. That includes milk, ice cream, yoghurt, cheeses, etc.

It also depends on the type of milk you are drinking. Some types of milk are not so fat. And I don't believe that the milk is the cause of obesity in the world. And it does better then it does bad. But I read somewhere that milk from cows are not the best for us since it is not made for our type of digestion.

It's not just milk from cows that doesn't agree with the human digestive system, but milk from any non-human animal. All other creatures drink their own mother's milk, as do some human babies, but none other than humans drink ANOTHER creature's milk. Our systems were designed for our own species' milk.

I used to hate drinking milk as a child and continue to do so as an adult and really never had any calcium related or such problems. I don't know about weight and milk but i do know for sure that we have been taught to put so much emphasis on feeding our child with milk that some of them end of filling up their stomachs only with milk instead of having green vegetables, fruits and other foods which are also very necessary. I mean milk suffices for food only up to a certain age of the child then he or she has to start eating all other foods too for overall nutrition.

i think it depends, because naturally milk is healthy source of calcium but now we can easily found many kinds of milk like low fat milk or something else, maybe obesity is just kind of stigma that i think it maybe come when someone always drink hi fat milk..

if you put yourself to toned milk, you get all the calcium and other minerals sans the fat content. but whole milk is definitely a risky option to avail. be careful and check on the weight factor. happy my lotting and take care.
