Time Deposits or Other Investments

Time Deposits are quite common in banks, as they are a safe way to invest. You can't get much interest from them, but still, you can get back the capital that you've given. Yet, would this be a good investment? How about other investments offered by banks, like equities investments? With this, you have to invest a huge capital, and you won't get a guarantee that you'll get it back. But, you get a huge return. Any thoughts on these things? Or do you have any other investment suggestions?
