Hello,
i just wanted an opinion about people who believes that caste-based reservations should be there in education system and people who believe that it should not exist at all.
i personally feel that reservations should not be based on caste but on basis of economic condition and that too should be tackled by providing funds to such students to study rather than giving them reseravtion.

Being from the west it's very hard for me to even begin to understand why a system like that should ever be used!?

Hi phlamingo,
I am from India. i m glad that u took interst in this topic and took time to reply, though primarily i started this discussion for indians because they face this discrimination. now when u have asked then u will be shocked to know that in our country we still have reservations in seats in highher as well as technical institutions on the basis of caste of applicants. Shocking???? worse still political parties have placed a proposal to increase the number of reserved seats in elite indian institutins like IIT and IIM. its a big struggle to get into a good college of ur choice as the number of seats for an open candidate (open- term used for students who do not belong to any backward caste) are very few.

Even i too agree with u Arpit. Reservations should not be there. If so it should be on the basis of their prosperity.
