What do you think about that your boyfriend takes prophylactic with him?

If you've read my posts before, you would know my boyfriend had told me he wanted to live by himself, I was so sorrow, so I got to his city a week ago. These days, I was so happy, and he went to my classmates' with me as my boyfriend, we went to shopping as lovers, he even stayed with me all night long yesterday. But today, he asked me whether I needed prophylactic, I said no, then he took out prophylactic from his bag. I don't know why he has it in his bag, I believe he wasn't prepare to live my place, just because it was too late, there was not any bus to go back to his, so why he takes the prophylactic with him? I've been thinking about it for a long time, but I cann't find the reason:(
