My cat has a habit of scratching most things really, usually the carpet and curtains, but she also like to sctach the wallpaper and walls. I can understand why she scratches the fabric stuff becuase obviusly its good for sharpening her claws, but how is wallpaper/walls good for scratching her claws? I really don't get why she does it!

He has scratched the wall before when he was stuck in a room and tried to get out, but not normally. He has made a mess of the lower kitchen cabinets, standing and scratching and trying to scale them to get to the faucet.

My cat ruined part of our wall in the hallway, he managed to rip off big bits of the quite posh looking wallpaper! We rent, so we tried to fix the damage as well as we could, but it was pretty bad. He didn't do it to sharpen his claws, he just did it because he likes being destructive. My inlaws cats also scratch their walls, but they do it so they can sharpen their nails. It seems they like the feeling of walls. Apart from this he hasn't damaged any of the other walls (apart from really slight damage) and he adores his scratchpoles, so he doesn't really feel the need to attack my furniture.

The kitten does this almost everyday, and gets away with it if no one stops him. He's torn off chunks of wall to expose the corner studs, and it looks horrible..

My sweet fur baby, Tabitha, always used to jump up on the wall and managed to tear some of the wall paper, curtains and window shades. She liked to scratch my leather dining room chairs as well, even though I covered those chairs with coats and a blanket. Nothing I did or said discouraged her. My theory about this unwanted behavior? The cat was all by herself much of the time and was probably bored, so she did things like that for amusement and exercise.
