Why did the automakers drop steel bumpers on cars and go to plastic wrap arounds?
It used to be such a good feeling to polish up the chrome. Now all we can do is scrub off the bugs!
seems to me a steel bumper would even out the small front end bangups much better than the plastic! What do you think?
have you ever had to replace a Plastic bumper? Be prepared to pay $500 at least.I think we are getting screwed again!

2 reasons first, the plastic bumpers are aboit 1/3 the cost to make than the steel ones are, and secondly, the plastic bumpers absorb theshock and shatter in an accident where as the steel bumpers stay rigid and cause a lot of damage to the other car and its occupants

I think myself that the auto companies are just plain too cheap to put the steal bumpers back on the vehicles. Have you pushed against your vehicle? Do it and watch what happens it is like plastic or some of the newer ones are. I think they just plain don't want to spend the money to keep things safe. I think they are only thinking about the money they will be spending.
