I'm pretty lucky to live in a city that offers lots of great activities for kids. Just today we went to an event run by this great program call Mother Goose. They had a spring fling at a local park and had a bounce house set up, a bubble station, sidewalk chalk, a craft center, and music. My daughter had a blast playing and being around other little kids. This program Mother Goose has a playdate set every Thursday. It's free and a ton of fun. We read books, sing nursery rhymes and dance. I try to go every week since my daughter really enjoys it and it give us something to do.
So what kind of activities does your community offer for kids?

You are lucky to have such great free community things to enjoy with your daughter. The only thing around here is the library, where there is a story time for the little ones. When my kids were small, I took them to the beach. That was free, and fun. I used to pack a lunch and spend hours there letting them play in the water and build sand castles.

Today was a day of many activites in our town. There was a free kids fishing tournament at the state lake. There are always basketball games to play or watch at the community center also. But, my favorite activity today was the Pinewood Derby and Scout Show. Packs from all across our Distict have pack derby's to see who is the fastest of the pack to compete against other packs on the big day. Each rank can have 2 scouts compete. My Pack has only 2 Tigers so both got to go even though neither won fastest in our Pack. We have 4 Wolves so that was a heated race and all were cheering for the final 2, even the losers. We only had 1 Bear make a car and his was the fastest for our Pack and took 4th Place in the District. We have 3 Webelos so again another heated race. Ones car won Best Looking for the webelos overall and the other came in 5th Place over all.
In the park Packs and Troops set up interactive displays to to show the public some of the fun they have in scouting. Our pack made Wobble Racers. It is amazing what can be done with a piece of paper some tape and a marble. For the Scout Show my hubby who is the Webelos leader made a wooden board with felt glued to it for the "track" to race the wobble racers down. We think it went pretty well.
Of the other activities our packs favorite was the Obstacle Course with the swinging rope. Check my profile pics for more photos of the event.

I am sorry to say but the only thing that is offered where I am is the library has a summer reading program. It's hard to believe but it is true. I wish we had other things but if I want my daughter to do anything like what you did today I have to take her somewhere else.

We live in a small community. It couldn't afford to do something like that. However, once a year at the start of summer the close down Main St. to have a parade. They also corner off about 3 blocks to set up some games and things for the children to do. Nothing cost because everything is donated by the bank.
The last day of school the children get to do what is called Fun Day. The children go to school to spend the day doing fun activities outside all day. They have rock climbing and things like that.
