why do dogs eat poo?

This is so gross I used to wonder this too. I have a golden retriever who will eat anything you give her, you take her outside she will eat poop. I wonder whoever said dogs mouths are cleaner than ours????? I guess their dog never ate poop. lol I have heard that the reason for this is because something is lacking in their diet, I dont too much understand this because my dogs are very well fed. But this is the only thing I have heard because I wanted to know this before as well. It is the only answer I had ever gotten.

Yeah, I have also noticed it with our dog that there are times that whenever some dogs poo, he will then sneak out and then eat them :-)... it really upsets us because he will bring the poo around our yard using his mouth then leave it there so messy.

LOL I wonder about this frequently.I've noticed my older dog never has eaten poop, but yet my puppy seems to clean up after himself in the backyard. It's disgusting, and I would love to know how to break him of this habit.

Well, guys, if your dog is eating his poo, then it's because he is with Giardia. Just go to the Vet, he'll apply an injection in your dog. Giardia is like vermin in your dog. That's why your dog is eating poo. After the Vet apply a vaccine in your dog, done. He'll stop eating it.

probably because it smells like their dogfood since thats the only food they take...maybe smells and taste like it..
