Now, I know that I am showing my age but it's posted so what the heck! Do you remember chasing the ice cream man? I have fond memories of the Good Humor Ice Cream truck driving through my neighborhood as a child. We all got our change from our parents and waited patiently until the truck stopped in front of our homes and sold us an ice cream. If I missed the truck in front of my house or the house next door, I chased the truck down the street and got my ice cream. That was one of the best things of summer. That was such a treat! Back then, the ice cream cost a nickel, a dime...boy have times changed.

Yes r0ck_r0ck, memory lane is a wonderful place sometimes. Especially the childhood memories. May I ask, how come you never got ice cream from the truck? Did they have the ice cream trucks in your neighborhood? Just curious, thanks for responding...take care...

Hi r0ck_r0ck, I get you now. I love ice cream, it does not love me but what the heck. I have to say that you are the first person to tell me you don't like ice cream. You are lucky, look at all the pounds you won't gain! LOL!!! Thanks for clearing that one up for me...take care...

Hey! Yes, I remember the ice cream truck, sorry, but it was a little different from your story, the ice cream used to be around 1 USD, and I would use my saved money from doing chores and go buy it with my friends. It was very fun to do because it was cool when it was pretty hot out. Sorry, the ice cream truck didn't have a little bell like you are talking about. It was the little tune they play, but I remember seeing those trucks in the movies, it looked cool. Yea, sometimes my parents paid for it too, that was very nice and then I would get a more expensive one. It was upsetting when I didn't have the money and couldn't get any and my friends got some. I remember one time, my friend had an extra dollar and bought me one. Next time, I bought her one because she bought mine the last time.

Yea, I can imagine that it would be very cheap as well. Thanks for the best response, that was nice of you. In fact, thanks for saying that I am young. You know, I have a few friends around my age and they say they are old! I think you are only as old as you think. I don't think you are old at all. :D

Hi there callarsel, Pablo, Thanks for responding. I have to laugh because I looked at your page and realized why your ice cream was so expensive! I have children older than you! When I was a kid, the ice cream was so cheap. LOL!!! We used to use pennies to pay the Good Humor man! See, I am really showing my age here. That was nice that your friend bought you ice cream and you bought her some back. Sharing is caring...People do the same things in life sometimes, but in different eras. We were kind of spoiled too. I did not get money for chores, we just did them. But when we asked for things like ice cream money, Mom and Dad just gave it to us. Thanks for the great response, take care...

Great memories!!! The truck always stopped outside our house!!! We always ran in the house too, to get some change from Mom. I can remember actually calling Good Humor in the phone book and telling them that the guy didn't come around at 9pm. They usually sent someone out right away!

Now that is cool reinydawn, getting the ice cream man to come out right away? Wow! We ran so fast we never missed him and he was consistant, our Good Humor man came everyday during the summer months. Take care and thanks for the nice response!

Yes sigma77, those were the days. I sure would like to see the Good Humor man coming around again. I remember that they wore white uniforms and a hat. Nowadays all I see is the Mr. Softee truck, it just isn't the same. Thanks for responding, take care...

Oh yea I remember the Mister Softee truck coming around. It's amazing how that song is stuck in your head regardless how old you are. It brings back good memories and still today the truck comes around to make new memories for the kids of today.

Yes howard96h, I remember the tune also. But let me tell you, where I live it is so weird. I saw the Mr. Softee truck the other day and he is playing Christmas music, I kid you not! What does that say about our winter this year in NY. It was so mild that the ice cream man was around the school with his truck in December 2006! And it was the same music that I heard the other day...talk about weird...And yes, the memories are here for the little ones, and one day, perhaps, they will be on myLot discussing Mr. Softee! LOL! Thanks for responding, take care...

We still have an ice cream man that comes thru the neighborhood here! He plays a little song and the kids all run out, but its like $3 to buy something! That's so expsneive! This guy though is so rushy he won't wait around even if there are people running to get to his truck, he just pulls away! Sometimes we are really slow and we miss him. :(
So we make sure to have some kind of freeze pops in the freezer! And I still can't believe how expensive it is to buy from the truck!

Yes 4cuteboys, the ice cream man is very expensive these days. That's why I love my memories, the ice cream was cheap back then. If I had an ice cream man like yours, I would not even bother to buy from him. He should wait for his customers...Thanks for responding...take care...

Yes disvachic, ice cream sure is expensive nowadays. We have a Mr. Softee truck that comes around but it's just not the same as the Good Humor man. I bet your children really do enjoy it though, I know my grandchildren do. Thanks for responding, take care...

I sure do remember the ice cream man. We had one that would come through our neighborhood every once in a long while. We never knew when he'd drive by. We'd hear the music and every kid would go TEARING home to ask for money. Sometimes I'd get some and sometimes not. When I did, it was the BEST feeling ever, standing beside the truck, feeling the heat coming from somewhere underneath it, and having the man lean down and hand me my vanilla swirl cone from the window. You're right when you say it was one of the best things about summer... I'll never forget it :)

haha I totally remember chasing down the icecream truck. It was called "Mr Whippy" back in New Zealand and boy everytime we heard the truck and its music, we would scrounge around for loose change or beg our parents for it and run as fast as we can to be first in line LOL We didn't want our favourite kinds to run out haha.

Mr. Whippy? Now I have never heard of that one but it sounds cute. What kinds of ice cream did they sell? The same as here I imagine? We always begged for change and were so disappointed if we had been punished for something and were told, "no ice cream for you tonight" Thanks for responding, take care...

Oh not only do I remember chasing the ice cream truck, my father owned one!!! Yep he owned his own ice cream truck. Let me tell you, we were very popular on our block LOL. All the kids thought we were so lucky to have a dad that owned an ice cream truck. My brother use to help my dad everyday after school.
One of my favorite ice creams use to be called a screwball. Not sure if they still make them. It was pink ice cream in a clear cone shape container. In the very bottom was a gumball. The fun was eating the ice cream and making your way down to the gumball. It was like getting 2 treats, the ice cream and the gum.

Hi daycarepal, Wow were you lucky. Dad owned an ice cream truck? That would have been like heaven when I was a kid. I remember the ice cream with the gum ball in the bottom. I think they still have them some places. Thanks for responding and take care...

I remember hearing the music from the Good Humor Man's truck a block away. Then we, the neighborhood kids, would run to our homes and ask our Mom or Dad for money for ice cream. The truck would always stop in the middle of the street and we would all come to greet the ice cream man. I would always get a chocolate eclair ice cream bar or a creamsicle. My brothers always got the rocket popsicles. The red, white and blue ones.
There are no ice cream trucks in our area anymore. Safety concerns for children running in the street. I was surprised to see them on the very busy Richmond Avenue in Staten Island, when I lived in New York. They weren't Good Humor trucks, but they brought back memories for me.
PEACE

fpd1955, I too remember hearing the truck well before it got to our block, we were so impatient waiting for it to arrive. I remember the red, white and blue pops too. I always preferred ice cream as opposed to the ices. But I do love a good, real Italian Ice in the summer. Creamsicles are yummy too. Thanks for responding, take care...

Yep, I miss the days of that familiar jingle of bells, so simple, so inviting! Not like today, with that nasty tune going on and on and on!!!
The only ice cream that I could afford back then was a rocket pop, for which I used to save my four cents milk money. The other Popsicles were more expensive, so I'd wait for my Dad to treat us on a hot summer night at home.
I used to get a little jealous of my friends, who always seems to have enough money for the most expensive ones, like the triple-layered Chocolates ones, or the Strawberry Shortcake...When I did have the money (ohmgd, 35 cents!) I used to get a Toasted Almond or an Orange Creamsicle.
I can recall the truck being driven by the local Hippie...I always found it funny that he had to wear the uniform and hat even though he had long hair. ;)
Nowadays I buy my favorites when they go on sale in my supermarket. I still crave Toasted Almonds in the summertime! Hubby likes the Rocket Pops. :)

Hi there DarlingGirl, thanks for responding. Yes, I used to get the Orange Creamsicle too. I loved it and the Strawberry Shortcake also. The price of ice cream these days is astronomical! I buy the ice cream on sale too. I sure do miss the days of chasing the ice cream truck and being so excited. Talk about simple pleasures. Take care now...

Now you still have to watch the ice cream man. Things have changed and I'll tell you why. Now the ice cream man recently, in my neighborhood, put his phone number on a pop icle stick to give to my twelve year old cousin. Be careful. We don't have things as innocent as the old days. I wish we could turn back time sometimes. Now predators are everywhere. This guy is old enough to be my cousin's grandfather.

Yes I can remember that. For a nickel you got two big scoops and for a dime we got a cone that had two places to put the ice cream on the same cone. That was more ice cream than I could eat, and it was real good ice cream. Look what we pay now 50 years later.
Not to mention the ice cream isn't nearly as good either, unless of course my taste buds are elderly. hehehe. Take Care.

Hi, I do remember the good old days when the ice cream man would come down the street and we would run in the house get some change and run back to the ice cream man. My brother even took the ride with the ice cream truck and helped the guy (he was an older man and my brother was about 10 years old, he wanted to help sell the ice cream so the guy let him go with him a couple of blocks) I don't think it would be the same today, riding with the ice cream man!

Everything is getting expensive so fast. It is funny you mention about the ice cream man because even though I am more mature now, I still want to run behind of the ice cream van when it has already passed by. I think we all still have that child in us.
