My daughter has been asking for heelys for her birthday. I finally decided to splurge and get them for her. We had her party tonight and she was so excited to get the heelys. They didn't fit, so we are exchanging them tomorrow. Now she tells me that she isn't going to use them because she thinks she will fall! I can't believe this! I told her we could just take them back, but now she says she wants to try them. She is 7 and I thought that she would be old enough to use them. What do you think? Do your kids have heelys and are they easy or hard to use?

Both my kids are now on their second pairs. They are 7 and 9 years old. My 7 year old had some real problems at first but eventually got the hang of the. My 9 year old took to them like a duck to water, the only problem being that we had to have a long chat with her about skating on the hardwood floors in the house which she thought was great fun.

I personally think heely's are dangerous. I have seen a few kids wipe out on them, usually older kids trying to show off. I have also seen signs at many stores that say "No heely's allowed". My daughter is 6 and hasn't asked for them, probably because she knows I won't buy them. My niece is 9 and does fine with them, though.

I know that the kids can't have them in school, but I thought for ourside on our driveway she would be fine. It might be entertaining for her.

My daughter has taken the heels out and given up. She wears them as just gym shoes now.

Great discussion. I am sitting here for 10 minutes thinking what are those heelys. now i know. sorry i don't have kids, but when I would have some i think i would buy them those, but at first let them use at home, so they can practise. I would like not to see them on the street with somethign broken. Hope nothign is gonna happen to your daughter, good luck

My daughter has given up on the heeleys. She had a hard time figuring them out , so we ended up selling the and she took the money and bought herself some webkinz.

I've seen some at walmart that aren't quite as expensive. I think that they might have more than just the one wheel on the heel, but haven't investigated them so closely.

That is great! My daughter never learned how to use them....I guess she isn't too coordinated:) We ended up selling them and she bought herself webkinz instead.

They are very expensive. I think that they are worth it because they can wear them as regular shoes also. This is how I justified it to myself.

She will get used to them if she wears them enough- If she is afraid of them- hold her hand when she first wears them- like you would with roller skates. My daughter has them too - she is 10. Got her first pair last year- they really aren't all the rage anymore here- I asked her if she wanted a new pair- hers were looking old and I tell you her feet grew fast quickly- she was like nope- I'll wait til they get a new design. LOL kids!

Yeah, we were waiting hoping that they would go down in price, but that is all she asked for for her birthday. I ended up giving in.

Frankly, I think they are dangerous. I've seen kids crash into other people while using them in shopping malls and other crowded areas where they are not supposed to be used. Also, schools are beginning to ban them altogether because they are such a nuisance.

I have already told her that they are for use at home and in the neighborhood. Not in stores and not in school.

I dont know. My kids have been asking for them for a year and I still have not let them get any. For three reasons.
1. They are like 80.00
2. They have to stand with the top part of their foot up so they roll. I'm not so sure that is a good thing.
3. They cant wear them at school!
I guess I'm the "mean" mom!

No, I was the mean mom for a long time. I decided that I would splurge~ they were $70! I ended up buying some extra support thing to put inside for her heels too.

Kids seem to really enjoy them. I haven't seen anyone look like a dork or fall on them yet.

My son is only 14 months old she he obviously does not have heelys but my younger brother and sister (age 8 and 5) both have them and they are addicted to them. They wear them everywhere EXCEPT for school. I don't know if they are easy or hard to use but both of my siblings are pros at them. They both have never go hurt using them and they learned pretty fast.

Thank you for this information. I think that my daughter will be able to learn also. By the time your son is older, some other fad will come along.

Heelys are gym shoes that have a compartment in the heel where you can open it and a wheel comes out. The kids like to ride on the wheel. If I can get a photo, I will attach.

I think that 7 is a good age for heelys. I hope she gets the hang of them quickly.

My kids are grown but my neighbor has five children, aged 9 and under. (yes, I would pull my hair out!) Her 7, 8 and 9 year olds have them and love them. The 7 year old took about 2 days to get comfortable with them and then he was off like lightning!

Ok, we don't have anything here called 'heelys' but i can only assume they're shoes with heels - am i close?
LOL!
I dunno, if i'm right then it would depend on the type of heel on the shoe - are they slightly raised or something more like stillhetos? (sorry for the spelling) - i guess i would have to see what they looked like before i could guess an age that was ok!
Did you wanna add a picture for me? That would be great coz i'd feel like a real nut if we weren't even talking about the same thing :)

They are shoes and where the heel is you can pop a wheel out. I don't have a pic to post~ sorry.

My 7 year old begged for heelys for Christmas and got them, however he tries to use them but very unsucessfully! He hasn't had any luck at all. He practices in our hallway lol, and he falls alot and doesn't really do it right. He just sort of slides and won't lift up his foot like they are supposed to. I see much younger kids using them and wonder how they do it! I dont know how else to teach him and i'm scared to take him outside with them because he will really get banged up. Good luck with the heelys!

I have this great fascination for shoes and would not compromise with quality. i have a huge shoe collection but generally, i end up wearing only a few. it feels good to have a look and in others also i kind of have a tendency to glance down to their shoes. sometimes, its annoying.
