is it better to flush the toilet with lid up or down?

I flush with the lid up. Does it make any difference whether or not the lid is up or down?

I flush it with the lid up because I leave the lid up when I'm done. The reason being that usually I'm online and when I first feel the urge to go I ignore it. Then I hold it as long as I can. I end up running to the bathroom and when I get there my pants are unzipped and ready to go down. So I don't want to have to pause just to put the seat up. I might go on myself if I do that.
