my husband is. I stopped working when i had the baby 6 months ago. Before that we both worked. He made more money than me. My money went to paying child care, paying off debts, saving up enough to buy this house and bought all the baby stuff cash :)

I agree...I think now-a-days it does take two people to be able to make it...not even to live comfortably, but just to make it. Congrats on the new baby, I had my last little girl 2 years ago and now our family 5 kids strong...hehe, with 3 girls and 2 boys. Childcare is very expensive and almost not worth working for anymore unless you're making a ton of money to justify it. What about the rest of you?

In my family both my parents are the bread winnes. (I'm still working on payinf off some bills before I move out). I think in today's society both husband and wife need to be the bread winners.

Right now, it's my hubby. He has been very supportive of our family for a long time and my kids are all in school now, so I know he wants and needs me to help out financially... On that note, please check out my discussion on my current situation, titled "MOMS~ I need advice!!!"... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/111644.aspx Statistics showed that if a home maker's work was income-earning, it would be equal to 3 jobs! Those studies also proved that, a lot of the time, it cost more money than the potential earnings of both partners working. Due to the cost of gas, food, childcare, etc. plus the quality time with family and time for your household that you lose... sometimes, it's more advantageous to be a stay-at-home Mom. Any home maker knows that the old saying, "A Woman's Work is Never Done." is sooo true! We are multi-tasked, efficient, accomplished, under appreciated (usually) and definitely UNDERPAYED! Well, if I could choose any occupation it would be a homemaker because I thoroughly enjoy it. Some people aren't cut out for it, but I am fulfilled and happy at home. Don't get me wrong, saying we're 'underpayed', because there are so many personal rewards from home making.

I held out posting this but I am a stay at home Dad :-) my wife works and I am here with the kids and let me say it's not easy work! I agree that it's like having 2 or 3 full-time jobs because there is so much to do and you're always on the go with them, not to mention naps, cleaning, dishes, trash, shopping, paying bills, running them here and there...omg I can go on and on...lol! Right now I am trying to create an income from home so that my being here isn't just about taking care of the kids physically, but also financially. That way I don't have to worry about not being there for my kids and also not having to worry about paying a daycare to raise them. Who else agrees?

I would love to find some decent 'work from home' jobs, so let me know what you find and I'll do the same. I love myLot but I definitely don't earn enough here to call it a job!

It is husband now. Both husband and wife were bread winners. Now that the wife has quit and become a housewife, it is husband who is real bread winner. It is very difficult to pull on with 1 earning. What to do ? Children have grown up and requires attention , care & guidance.

I agree, I don't like the idea of working to pay someone to raise the children I created...hehe..thats what's wrong with the kids of the world today. They need their parents guidance and discipline. What happened to our youth? I'm only 30 years old and I have 5 kids and I don't want them to turn out like the kids I see turning to gangs and crime. I wish there was a time machine because I'd tell the kids we're going on a special trip and head straight back to the 50's....hehe....mom said the 50's were the best!

Having two working people in a family is becoming more and more necessary due to rising costs. How come with costs so high these idiots hiring people aren't paying more?

I bring in more money. But, my wife also works part-time to help with expenses and stays at home with our daughter during the day so our money doesn't go to daycare.

Yeah, Daycare is almost always a deal breaker. It's not worth waking up day after day to go to work just to pay a daycare. Unless you're making enough to cover that and still justify the job. I wish they made telecomuting easier for people, alot of work done in an office doesn't actually require you to be there..it's true, all you need is a phone and a computer with internet access and you're good to go.

In my house my husband is, but if I had been making more money than him, when we had children, then he would have stayed home. Were were lucky that he found work with a software company that started with 17 people and grew to 4,000, so all the people who started early with the company are doing quite well. Many of his female co-workers became the bread winners while their husbands stayed home, after the children were born. I think if women and men usually earned the same amount of money, we'd see more fathers at home. Ideally we'd both like to work part-time and raise the children part-time, but it's difficult to find two part-time jobs that bring in as much money as one full-time, career.

That's very true. Wow, that story reminded me of Microsoft for some reason...hehe..can you imagine if you'd invested early in Microsoft and held onto that today what your stock would be worth today? I like being at home instead of a regular job, I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit so I was always unhappy working for someone else, so much so that it caused me health problems. I wish we could all work less and make more ;-)

We both work, but he works two jobs and makes more money. i am good at saving money by using coupons and rebates so it is almost equal.

hehe...my grandma was always a coupon user...now I'm 30 and I don't use them but she swore by them. I always get annoyed standing in line while the ladies pull out these huge boxes of coupons to save money :-) because I just don't see the bigger picture I guess. Now having two jobs, that would be very very hard to hold down. Not to mention the time away from your marriage. I wouldn't think about having two jobs because it would take more time away from my marriage and kids and it's a fail proof plan for divorce in my opinion. The only time husband and wife would see each other is when he's sleeping or waking up to go back to work. Not a good idea in my book.
