Why did they not include all scenes in the book in the movies?

I'm guessing it's probably a time issue, there's no way they could possibly fit all the scenes from the book into the movie without making it a really long movie! So they have to be selective and cut out scenes which they don't think are as important to the plot or that they don't think they need to specifically show you in order for you to understand and enjoy the film.

LOL if they had to show everything from the book in the movie then the movie would probably been something like 6 hours long. They have to cut somwehere, that's always done when converting a book to a movie

If they had shown everything in the book, the film could have been 4 hours long! I don't know quite how they chose which bits to cut out though. I guess the bits you mentioned weren't directly involved and weren't needed for the whole story to make sense but I prefer the books because some of the best bits from the books have not been used in the films.

thank you for your response pumpkinjam! yes i suppose that's right, it would be boring if they would include all details. and yet, you also have a point when you mentioned that some of the best events are still in the book.

There is no restriction of space for writing the book, which we can see from the pages of the Potter books themselves, as the pages are increasing book by book. Hence imagination is the main criteria there. But a movie cannot go on for hours and time is the main criteria in movie making. That is why when a book is made into a movie, a screen play is separately prepared and main events that are necessary to move the story, are taken into account. Certain other things are shown as passing by events and other not main items and scenes are omitted. I too was feeling disappointed in not seeing the world wizard cup tournament being shown in a short way.

maybe because the length of time will be very long if they include all scenes from the book to the movies. another would be, so that more fans would still opt to read the books.

The fact of the matter is that if they did the movies would be 6hrs long--too long for anyone to bother & sit in the theatre for. Now what upsets me is when they leave extrememly important scenes or information out of the movies. For example, I was pretty mad when the director made no attempt In the Prizoner of Azkaban, to make the connection with Harry's Patronis to his fathers animagus (sp?). For me that was one of the most touching parts of that book & the movie just skated over it like it was no big deal!

There was quite a bit not shown in the movies that were in the books. This often happens when one converts a book to a movie. A book is not limited usually in how much detail or legnth they go into but a movie is. To try and show everything that was in the books would make the movies way too long for people to enjoy let alone the cost involved in making it. For example to have shown all of the constentants battle the dragons would have cost them a fortune to do with special effects. The producers and directors have to look at this when they are making a movie. They figure out what can be cut and what can't in order to make it the best they can at a cost they can afford.

there has only been one thing in the films that they have missed out from what was in the books that has disappionted me, and that is not having pigwidgoen in it, that little own is a nutter in the books, it's a shame they couldn't put him in the films too.

They'd probably make a 24-hour movie if they include everything. All book-to-movie never include everything because it would take too long. Of course, there's budget constraints. And creative limitations too. As the other posters said, it would be too boring to sit through all the mundane stuff. They wanna make it really exciting and engaging so they just pick the scenes that they can make very impactful and that would tell the main plot.

I guess just like any other book to movie conversion, the movie would have been too long if they had put everything in :)

It would probably take the movie for 4-5 full hours if they would include every details stated in the book. It's just fine that they choose only important scenarios. It is quite disappointing, though, that some significant scenes were not included.

I so know what you mean. I understand why they have to cut some parts of the book out of the movie for time issues. But (wishful thinking) maybe they could keep most or more parts in it and have it available after the movie theater version is showed. Like when it came out to buy or rent they could have an etended version or something. I love the books more than the movie for that fact that nothing is cut out. I am sure ther are plenty of people out there that love the books enough to want to sit and watch a four hour movie. Maybe not in theaters though.

this is not of that importance....
Director have to make his movie as short as possible so he has to delete some scenes...
This is a very simple logic dude...!!!
What do you think...???
