poor people are happier than the rich ones. AGREE?

rich poor gap - the gap between the rich and the poor

Poor are more happier than the rich. problem of the poor: where will I get my money to buy food, where will I get money for the bills, where will I get money for my children's allowance, daily expenses etc.. in short MONEY is their problem. well, in some cases, there are times that they have more problem rather than having money but generally, it is money right? Rich people problem: we don't need to be specific here, money is also their problem admit it or not ha ha! They may not problem like the poor does but they have bigger problems in money since THEY HAVE IT and they have problems WITH THOSE MONEY. maybe problem on where to use that money ha ha ha! now, why did I said that poor are happier than the rich? This is because, poor can manage a good, simple life even without those luxuries the rich people has. Poor people can smile even if they have nothing to eat. Rich people want more out of their money and get no contentment at all. Rich people always hungers for money, fame and power. Poor people has nothing to loose, simple life is what offered to them and rather than that, they have no problems and they may look at life in a very hard way but in the end of the day, they can still smile. do you agree to this? why or why not?

I don't agree. I think it depends on the person's contentment. There are some rich people who become content on their lives. Some poor people want more which makes them unhappy. I think it really varies from person to person.

those some rich people who get contented with their money will never get happy for the people around them always want them down! Well. if that's your opinion.. ok. I believe that it is also true in some cases. :)

I agree with mik it really depends on a person's contentment. There are rich people who are not thinking of just earning money, but also thinking how to share the money. But these rich people are very few. There are also some poor who never been contented and seems they bear everything, even how small or big earnings they have they are still unthankful. It really depends on the person's point of view in life.

it really depends but on the contrary i believe that poor people are happier since they are most contented with the family bonding and the realization that they are always there for each other

yes. poor doesn't problem more than the problems of the rich. rich people think that they have so many problems involving their money and they can't have time for their family, getting hotheaded.. things like that..

this is due to high paying jobs which don't allow time. True wealth comes from a balance of time and money. For example a family is making $1 million or redsidual income which allows them to retire and spend time with their family thus giving them the perfect balance of time and money. Some poor people have lots of time on their hands but have no money to enjoy it or afford fun events that are expensive fun way to spend time

qjyorvoice, people don't need money all the time to enjoy life's wonders. we can enjoy life even if we have no money. :)

That is not necessarily true. Poor and rich are relative terms. I am poor in monetary terms, but rich in my everyday life experiences. People who have a lot of money seldom know how to use it. They have no idea what to do or when to do it because they have no structure in their lives. They have no idea about the simple joys in life and seldom are they equiped to deal with real life issues.....point in case is Paris Hilton. Money couldn't get her out of jail where her own stupidity landed her.

I hardly think that Paris Hilton is representative of the majority of rich people. She is a big time brat only seeking media attention to justify her existence. She may be rich, but she is very different than most who are.

Poor are more happier than the rich, because they can manage their money. come on to look them, for a poor.in the future the will enjoy their life together. one later,do you want to get success? so,please create a good controll in your life.

happiness depends on the situation and the persons out look on life. but rich ppl take too many things for granted and don't even know it were poor ppl learn to manage with what they have and not take a single breathe for granted.

this is similar to that discussion on being single or married. you think poor eople have nothing to lose but the daily stress of thinking how to put food on the table on a daily basis and there's hardly enough to make end meet and pay bills, i think is really tough. i guess some rich people have to struggle to keep the wealth, but don't htink that'll be too hard unless you are really greedy. happiness in the mind....but i think if you at least don't have to worry about finances - that would be so great.

yes having no worries at all means really happiness but worries are man's twin. they can only acquire having no worries at all by believing in God. Money is really a BIG THING here. if you don't have money, people think you can't survive, exactly but people with money spend less with their family, so in both ways, either of the two can be happy. it really depends on the person. :)

I think my friend it all depends on the temperament of the person. There are some people that like to complain and moan about every thing, be they rich or poor, and others who are grateful and optimistic. It could work both ways. I think extreme poverty cannot make any one happy as the extremely poor have no room in their lives to feel any thing if they are starving and sick, save despair and deprivation. So I think it could run in any direction. I think also what emotions run in people like compassion or envy? Even the rich man can envy some other richer guy, yet the poorer person can be full of compassion.

I can't say I agree nor disagree with this - I think it depends totally on the individual and how they are. My parents 'have money' (they've worked hard for it) but they are happy. They are also the first to 'give' to those who need. A poor person who can't feed or cloth their children I don't think are happy. Maybe it depends also on the degree of wealth or poverty.

I completely agree that poor people are happier than rich ones and that is because poor people appreciate everything more than rich people. Take for instance, a rich person will go fill up gas in their car just because it is past 1/2 of tank whereas poor people won't put any gas in their car unless there is a long drive coming or if the gas light comes on. Another thing I think that makes it even more prominent is the fact that the more poor a person is the more hope they try to have in order to just survive whereas rich people do not need to worry about tomorrow as much as the poor do. I also think that religion is closer to a person the more poor they are meaning this, during your poor times in life you will wake up and go to sleep praying however when you are making money and no worries, you might pray once a day and that is only if you have stayed true to your religion during your financial growth.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. People that have been rich all of their lives have no appreciation for it and in regards to your comment I do believe that most people that become rich forget about the simple thanks in life.

So you don't think that a person who was born with nothing, have every disadvantage in life and was after, all of that, able to pull themselves up, either with education or oppertunity, and become "rich" wouldn't appreciate it, especially having come from such a background?

One thing that I know for sure is that happiness cannot be measured against your wealth. being rich does not guarantee that you are happy and being poor does not mean you would be miserable. there are many other factors in life that affect your happiness such as love, family, honesty etc.

I agree with you to a certain extent...now I can't really speak from experience when I say this because the fact is I am poor & never tried to be rich! But from what I can tell.....the poor have a greater appreciation for life because their lives don't revolve around money~ Money can change people, and I feel that rich people can lack the appreciation for the simple things in life because of money. I am not saying that the poor is better...I just feel that the poor has a greater appreciation towards life.

I don't. Happiness is relative and different to each person. I know of poor people who are happy despite the lack of most things in their life while there are also poor people who condemn the world and blames the society for their situation. I also know of rich people who are very happy to the extent of being so generous. Happiness is only a state of mind.
• Philippines
21 May 07
that state of mind is a necessity too I guess for if not, then life will be dull. If we can learn to appreciate simple things like the poor.. we can really enjoy life. :) well, that's your view and I respect it. :)

qjyorvoice.. I think your putting things in a more material way. you just think that money for all the expenses can solve the problem. well at some point it is but poor can appreciate things more than the rich does. Give them an imported candy and they'll dance to happiness. Give them a tap from the back coming from a well known rich person and they will be so proud of it. Simple things mean big to them. They can appreciate life's tiny delights and that is why we are living in this world, to appreciate life more. Don't they say that poor are well loved by God for they have more sufferings than other people here on Earth. Those people who suffer the most are well trusted by God, for God know that they can really go things straight, they can solve any problems that come their way and it is only up to them to do it in a nice or bad way.

Not even close I heavily dissagree beacause how can you be happy if you can't even pay the bills. how can you be happy if you have no back up plan what if someone in your family becomes ill how will you pay for the care that they need what if you have to pay $100,000 for a new operation that is the only way to save their life and you don't have the money. What about your children how will you pay for college??? There are so many pressures associated with being poor how can you defend yourself from a rich man who can easily kick you out. If your rich material things tend not to matter and if they lose their house they can just buy a new one. but poor people tend to become too attatched to the little things that they have and can't bear to lose them. Therefore most rich people are definately more happier than most poor people but then again as I heard earlier thery are some exceptions

I can agree that money is the problem of both poor and the rich but both are in two directions. For the poor they always think of making money but the rich about keeping it safe and enhancing it. The common factor with both is that they are thinking of making money. In a way the poor are more happier. I remember a story that once a father took his son to the country side to see the life there. On their return father asked his son as to what he had seen and understood there. Son replied: "Dad we have street lights and lights in our room, but they have the Sun and the moon. We have fans and coolers; they have the wind. We have a swimming pool they have the river. We get milk from the dairy, for them their cows gives it, we have our house with a big lawn, they have the whole forest." Father said, "Who is rich then?" Other than the poor and the rich it is the middle class always suffer and struggle everywhere. Your discussion is wonderful and thank you for that.

I have to agree especially now that I live in the US. Its the middle class who are worst off here because they don't get any govt benefits unlike the poor, yet still have to afford expensive insurance, education, housing.... and rich have too much to spend.

I have to disagree with you, mskzalameda. What you presented was a generalization of your thoughts about the differences between the poor and the rich people. My two best friends belong to rich families. Their money is endless. Indeed, they can buy all the luxuries they want and travel everywhere. But they know how to save money. They know how to work hard for their money. They are the most compassionate, kind-hearted people I saw. They remember to give out to charities. They smile and laugh a lot. I used to work in a company that catered to OFW. Most of them are so proud to show off how much their income was. They acted like they are superior than me. You see, rich or poor, it doesn't matter. What mattered is the person itself you are dealing with.

yes the ideas presented may be general but its only comparing the two problems. I know people both rich and poor. Maybe I just got the wrong idea about those rich kids that I know for they spend, spend and spend. They don't care for others. the poor people I know work really hard for they have no money to support themselves, they work hard to attain something and their happy with that. my rich friends are yes happy with their money but not in their family. it really depends.

If poor people are happier than the rich, it is because these people in the survey sample happen to have some less ambitious and more practical genes. I don't think being rich or poor has any bearings with how happy someone is - actually, being rich should theoretically make you happier. :P

yes.. your points are correct but, you can't apply it to all. if we become rich, we will for sure want more. just like in cellphone, every month there is a new model and we never get contented with our own phone even not change it monthly, we may change it yearly.

Even if you are poor if you are not contented with what you have in life even if you are not poor that is not going to make happy.people who can adjust their life with what ever thinga available to meet theie necesseties will be happier pesons. but poor people want more money .they dream of becoming a rich people .rich people having with lot of money thinkg about tax problems ,maintanane of their material things like car ,t.v,computer ,insurance ,bills, etc always worries him .he will eat a lot he will be sick .he has no rest in his life he doesnt have proper sleep.he will suffer

I disagree. Everyone has their own problems, rich or poor. Not being rich or poor, its hard to understand and can only have empathy. A poor person's problem may be that they wonder where the next meal for their children will come from. A rich person's problem may be that they're being sued for whatever reason and may lose everything. Which is worse? I think happiness would come from the enjoyment of what you have access to, rich or poor.
