I am also a Chinese. I also found many new English words here. Sometimes even if you don't know its meaning, but you can guess according to the context. If it doesn't help, then install a translation software. It's much more convenient.

the only possible advice is practice. Read a lot and try to understand the meaning of the words by it content.
It must be very difficult since the characters are different from the Chinese characters.

As with everything else, you have to practice. That's the only advice I can give you, the more you read the better you get at it. English isn't my first language either but I've gotten pretty good with lots of practice :-)

there's no shortcut to read faster and efficiently.but i know there are some skills to do that.it worked for me.
first, try not to refer to the dictionary if possible, looking up a dictionary from time to time will slow your speed of reading, and if i do so,i will forget what it has said before.
then,if you met words that are not known, try to guess its meaning in the context,it's really a good way to do that.sometimes a word will be explained many times in different words, and you can guess if this word is a noun,a adj,or a verb, that would be easier for you to understand the whole article.
the last one is to grasp the main idea of the article, what's the purpose of the author?and so on.
i use this way,and it helped to catch the main idea as well.
