Daddy or Mommy?

Early morning while having breakfast my 1 yr. old daughter who was sitting on a chair slightly far from me suddenly shouted Dad, dad,. She was not really talking yet so we thought it was just mumbling. Realizing she was ignored, she came near to us and tap me on my legs and say it again dad, dad. Wow! I'm really happy bout it. Even her mom was quite jealous because we expect she will learn to speak mommy or mama first.
Aside from the feeling of being proud, I'm quite excited for the treat I'll receive from my wife. Because even before my baby was born. We had this bet on what our baby will learn to speak first, mommy or daddy? A sumptous meal at a cozy restaurant is at stake, hehe. And I'm glad I won.
How bout your babies, or your siblings? who did they call first, mommy or daddy?

My 7 month old daughter also said dad first, she actually only says mum when she cries, she can also say bub, Nat (her name is Natalie) and hello (occasionally) she says dad, bub and nat all the time but only says mum when she cries... how unfair is that!

Yep she is more intimate with me and I guess she doesnt need to say mum much as I am always there! Dad on the other hand spends all day at work and it is a huge thing when he comes home!

I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. My eldest son learned to say dad or dada first and it took him several weeks more to say mama. I felt a little jealous then because I spend more time with my son compared to his father.
My husband, knowing how I felt, told me that our son might have said dad first because our son misses him more because he is always out of the house for work. It made sense but it did not make me feel any better.
When he was 1 yr and 6 mos, he learned to say daddy first and mommy after 2 weeks. It did not bother me anymore because he runs after me more than his dad.

I have seen many a mothers asking their little ones to say, "Dad". This is how the child learns this word and starts using it. If this is what happened in case of your daughter, then credit should go to your wife.
Babies are normally more in contact with mothers and since it is easier to say, "Mom", they generally call, "Mom" first. But depending on situation, there could be exeptions to this, as in your daughter's case.
