If you get a tattoo in a clean environment, with sterile equipment, a tattoo is highly unlikely to be harmful for your skin. Some people may have an allergic reaction to certain colors of ink (I am fairly sensitive to red ink, which is a common sensitivity), but this is uncommon if your tattoo artist uses quality, safe inks.
