Some of you may remember one of my earliest discussions about David Hicks. He was the Australian man, from my home city, who was caught by the Allies in Afghanistan fighting for the Taliban. This was around the time of 9/11.
David Hicks was imprisoned in a US jail in Cuba for 5 years before his case came to trial. He made allegations of torture, etc, but did not pursue this in court.
He pleaded guilty, & his jail term was to be spent in Australia, in my brothers jail specifically.
Now my broher was asked to fly to Cuba to escort the prisoner back to Australia. He refused, as it's 17 hours flying time there, & another 17 hours back. They found other prisoner officers to do the job.
The plane landed in the early hours on Sunday morning with huge security.
My brother is in charge of him. He said that Hicks would be put in maximum security, in a windowless cell. They are being careful as other prisoners may react badly to Hicks being there, as he was a terrorist.
It is huge news here.

This makes the news much more real.Knowing someone who is connected in any way gives substance to what is sometimes just more words. Thanks for posting. It gives us reason to think about what is still going on in the world.

Wow, your brother is real awesome (lol). Didn't know you can refuse an order from above. Work is work, no? :P
Whichever the case, I hope your brother is safe.

My brother is very stubborn & will not cooperate with the bosses if he doesn't like their decisions. Well, he is one of the bosses, but not the big one!

Your brother could also be a man of principle who is willing to defy his supperiors on matters that offen his principles.

I am an Aussie and I don't think he should have been brought back I think he should be locked up for many years, he will end up being very rich and I think that stinks, if people choose to support people who are terrorists then they don't deserve to live in this beautiful country.

I don't know you can refuse order from the authority, when it comes to military I mean. I don't remember if I've read about Hicks but if he was caught fighting for the enemy against us then well that's enough proof he is terrorist.
ewww how can someone do something like that! and now he is back in his country :( why bother returning him to his homeland? didn't he leave his country by fighting for the enemy? anyway thanks for posting this, it's a dangerous job your brother has. Hope everything goes well!

I guess the US government doesn't want to foot the bill for his imprisonment any longer. Better the Aussies do it!

Here again a high profile terrorist getting world attention . I have not read about this man but am wondering how did he get involved in terrorism. When I think of the word terrorist it brings shivers down my spine. Your brother must me a very brave man. He must be talking to him everyday. What did he find out about this man? I mean his behaviour in the prison.

So they send this guy back in a luxury plane, and now they're going to assess his "needs"; how nice. This will be interesting. With your brother in charge, we'll get the hear the real story. You'll have to keep us updated on this one.
