What feeling is more human, forgiveness, or revenge?

In the face of any personal affront, from minor road rage to vicious acts of terrorism, the need for revenge is easily understood. So why should we believe that forgiveness is the more human quality?
The desire for revenge seems natural enough when someone wrongs us, particularly when a horrible and violent act has been committed, such as the murder of a family member or an act of terrorism. Forgiveness is often seen as a way to heal past wounds and achieve peace of mind, but it doesn't have the immediate or tangible sense of satisfaction found in acts of revenge. So how, then, should we see forgiveness being more human...??
