Do you give tip to waiter/waitress?

A Waiter - Do you pay tips to a waiter/waitress.

Whenever I go out for lunch/dinner, and the service provided by the waiter/waitress is up to my satisfaction, I make it a point to pay off to him/her in tips. Do you agree to pay them?

Anytime I eat in a restaurant that has a server I leave a tip. Of course, better service, or special circumstances deserve better tips. In my area, a server is paid less than minimum wage and is expected to be a good enough server to equal and surpass minimum. I imagine that some of them do quite nicely for themselves. If someone is obviously new, I make a point of giving a good tip, extra good, just for the encouragement factor. We all need encouragement.

Hi ranjeetkolarkar, it shouldnt hurt us a bit if we are being generous to waiter or waitresses. I always give tips to good services but I dont give if the services is not satisfactory.

I usually tip when someone does well with the service. I will give someone a 15% tip if the service was good. Not amazing but there were no mistakes. However, if they are worse than that, then I will make it a point not to leave a tip. Or if they are better, then I will leave a bigger tip. Generally, it really depends on the service that I receive. There are some restaurants where, if a party is of a certain size of bigger, they automatically enter the gratuity into your bill, so I always watch out for that as well.

I always leave the waiter/waitress a tip. Because they are providing a service and should be paid for their services. The average waiter/waitress in US only gets paid about $3 per hour without tips you cannot live off that.

It depends, if they were a good waiter/waitress I'll give them a tip otherwise not. It's something they should earn in my opinion, not expect by default.

If i am pleased of her service, i will give it something. But i will not do it just because this is tradition.

yup. a friend of mine said that i should always leave a tip whether i am satisfied with the service or not since it's a tradition... like saying, it's a must. but thinking about it, why leave tips when you weren't happy with the service? anyway, you already paid service charges which is included in your receipt.

Unless the service is really bad I tip them. The wait staff often depends on the tips to get by in this country because they don't make the minimum wages.

here in Italy you are not obliged to leave a tip because when you pay your bill, you're already paying for the waiter...but I do agree with you..providing I am satisfied with the service, I am used to giving the waiter/waitress a tip...but I must admit that I am not very happy about the ones I have recently found in the places I like going..so I am not always in a proper mood for tipping!!!

I always tip the waiter/waitress. I will tip more if the menus indicate the service charge is excluded in the price. Base on the local custom, I normally tip 10 per cent of the bill. LOL

Yes of course, giving them extra money or tip can help them be more friendly and more courteous when it comes to the relationship to their customers. Giving them tips just mean that customers recognizes the good service they rendered. I give tips too.

It basically depends on the behaviour of the waiter/waitress. Their service is the only thing which can convince me to give a tip. If they take care of us and give service happily and charmingly and with efficiency then no one can stop me from leaving a tip..!! But some waiters/waitress just do their job so unwillingly and so badly with no interest..!! That annoys me a lot in that case no tip for them. They must know how to work with common public. Sometimes seeing faces of such weired and dull waitress/waiters makes me soo annoyed that I just leave that place..!!

I only give a tip if the restaurant don't have a service charge and if I was satisfied with the service. Otherwise, I don't leave a tip. Maybe I'm a bit of a cheapskate but that's just how i am. ^___^

i would definitely agree on giving tips to waiter/waitress depending on their performance.. I know that they only have low salary and receiving tips from customer is very much helpful an additional to their income. Being waitress/waiter is not an easy task.
