i had a cat but when i had my daughter two months ago he didn't adjust well and i had to get rid of him...my fiance got me a puppy at the beginning of may for my birthday but now he is telling me that i can get another kitten if i want to but i have to get rid of my puppy. i want both really. i'm already attached to my puppy cause i have bad issues with getting attached to animals. but i am more of a cat lover the dog lover. what would you do?

I like cats more then i like dogs. But when there is a baby around kitties freak me out. So do dogs but not quite as bad. I think since you already have this puppy, maybe you should wait until the baby is a little bigger to get another kitty. I am not saying to never get one but just to wait.Good Luck!

Acually the whole thing about kitties sucking breath isnt what i was really bassing my answere on i know that it is an old wives tale. I based my opinion more on the fact that kitties like to lay on things soft things sometimes on the babies not trying to hurt them or anything and they like to claw and there are more alergies that are caused by kitties, i also mentioned that dogs freak me out too but not as much, they like to lay on things too i know that but kitties can get themselves where babies may be laying easier then a dog.

My first question is why do you have to give up the puppy just to get the kitten? I would say I wasn't giving up either. The puppy is going to need someone to play with and have for companionship. I had a puppy for a while inside with my three cats and they loved each other. I had to finally put her (The puppy) outside because she got to big to be in the house so she now has 2 friends outside. But animals need companions also not just humans. I wouldn't get rid of the puppy and I would tell him I wanted the kitten also.

No I would not get rid of one animal to get another. I think that is heartless. Animals are not things to give away when they don't suit our fancy anymore. I have two miniature pinschers, a siamese mix cat and a baby painted turtle. On top of having three kids and a husband.
Why is he telling you have to get rid of one to get another? Is it because he really wants to keep the dog and he knows you have attachment issues? It would easier to introduce a kitten tot a puppy and have them get along. Than doing it when either is older.

It's so sad to hear that your fiance want you to choose between cat and dog.I hate to do this,if possible i will keep both of them, don't worry some cats and dogs can get along very well.
You can put some work to teach them how to get along to each other. This is the best thing to do,try not to get rid of your dog.
If you really have to ,may be you can give your cat cat to the person who really love dog .But i will preffer you keep the dog.
