i was just wondering how long you wait before you choose a best response. i've noticed that some people will choose after only a few responses. how can you know that the best response has already been given when so many people are still responding. this is only my second discussion that i have started, and my first one didn't draw a large response crowd. but i still waited until it looked as if they were the only 4 responses i was going to get. that was like 24 hours later. i'm just curious if some are just anxious to choose or if they really feel that no one else would come up with a better response than the one they already heard. another thought. do you choose best response because it is what you wanted to hear or because you truly think it is the best one? thank you for reading my discussion today.

I wait at least 24 hours because I want to give people a time to respond. My discussions are never too popular, so I know that I won't get too many responses, so I feel that 24 hours is enough time to let people respond. If I see that after 24 hours, I'm still getting a few responses, I'll give people more time, usually a few more hours and then award a best response. I just gauge it on how many responses I feel I'll recieve in 24 hours time.

thank you, highflyingxangel. 24 hours is at least a fair amount of time to get people to respond to a discussion, i would think. and, like you say, if there seems to be more interest, wait. i'm going to go watch for some of your discussions. have fun

I wait a couple of days, not that I have huge discussions but it's when everyone has fresh the subject. Anyways, if repsonses keep popping in, my guess is to wait.
I chose the one that is more meaningful and well-written not by the opinion itself.

thank you, lucgeta for replying. it is important to make sure you think your responses out. as it looks like you do. worthless responses aren't even worth rating. thank you for your input.

Personally, I wait 2 days and then rate the best response unless I do not have 3 responses. If I have not received three responses; then I do not rate the responses until I have gotten at least 3.
I try to give the best response to the one I truly think is best. It may not be the response I "wanted to hear"; but, it may be the most informative, well thought out, or bring up something I overlooked or did not know about.

No, I haven't had that happen; but, I do wait for two days to get most of the responses before I select.
Yes, it can be very difficult at times to pick a best response. Sometimes you have more than one with a good response and it is hard to choose the best one.

I know what you feel.. Thats what happen to me when i was still a newbee here in mylot...i keep thinking why cant i get a huge number of responses.. Before, i can only get 3 responses and i really feel sad thinking that my discussion is quit interested and yet nobody wants to participate.. Just be patient, when Mylotters know you more coz you keep posting discussion, they will recognize you and the number of responses will start to grow..Just make sure your discussions as well as your responses to other discussions are well explained. you will get a high ranking then that makes you popular..
I used to wait almost 1 week before i chose my best response.. coz best response marking counts to the responser.. It is our way of thanking them for participating out started discussion.. So we better choose best responses for them to know they we're appreciated.. ^.^

very nice response, prettyvanz17. it hasn't bothered me about the lack of response to my discussion, at least not yet. lol. maybe i'm just not that interesting. i figure sooner or later i'll pick a winner. that's just a matter of spending some time observing and seeing what types of discussions bring the most responses. and then offering a valid viewpoint. you are right about showing appreciation for the responses. believe me when i tell you that i DO appreciate your (and everyones')response, even if you aren't the one chosen for br. thank you.

It really depends. Sometimes I will get 10 responses the first day I post the discussion. If this is the case, I usually wait about 5 days before choosing br. If it is a slower discussion, I will wait up to 2 weeks.
I do feel bad if I have picked the br and a few days later someone responds with an answer that I would have picked br over the first. I always will try to end all my discussions within a month so I can move on.

I love the way that they send the emails when someone responds to a discussion. I feel that it is resolved when I choose the best response as these are the discussions listed under my unresolved discussions. I still read and reply to all the responses to my discussions that are resolved when I get the response on my email.

very interesting, sunshine. how do you end a discussion on mylot? do you just stop checking or would you make a formal announcement that the discussion has ended. that may make for another discussion topic, idk. lol. thank you for sharing your method.

thanks, ace, if i may call you that. i kind of shortened it up a bit. lol. it seems that it would take a little while. but some do it in, like, 6 hours. just doesn't seem that you could find the best in such short time. unless you were helping out a friend or something like that. just odd to me. thanks for joining in.

According to myLot, they really suggest that you give people a lot of time to respond before choosing a best response. I agree with that because really, what's the rush?
When I choose my best response, I wait until no one new has commented on it for about a week. So that means I chose a best response for one today, but since someone posted in another one of my older ones this morning, I am going to give that one a little more time to see if anyone else decides to contribute something. Then what I do is take my time to read all the responses and choose the one that I think is not only most thoughtful, but the one that really adds to the discussion. You know, the person who maybe gives you some more insight or who takes some time to give you some really useful information.

krebstar, i think you hit the nail on the head. if i was to vote right now, you'd get it. but, who knows, someone with more wisdom and insight may come along. ;) i shall wait and read and learn. in the mean time, i think i will go check out some of your previous discussions. thank you so much for being involved in mine today.

I wait until i've read all responses, then choose. I let the response volume build up and when it slows down i read all the responses and choose, its very simple and saves time.

I try and wait about a week after I first post a discussion to give out a best response. There has been a few times that I after I gave out the best response someone posted an even better response 2 weeks later. The trouble that I have sometimes is marking best response in a discussion especially when there is two really good responses that I feel should both get recogniztion for. I wish there was a way to mark maybe two answers as being really good.
