I have a labrador at home. But, I do not let him touch my face or my mouth with his tongue....... not atleast when I am awake........ Laby....... has the habbit of stickin his tongue onto my ears when I'm asleep. But, I do not encourage him to lick my face. Though........ when I see those hollywood films.... I see a lot of people letting their pets lick their face..... in some cases........ I have also seen people touchin their tongue on their pet's nose or say........ touchin their tongue to their pet's tongue. Lol........ is it that I am missin something warm.......... I know your pet would feel good when you do that, but, it just dont go down fine with me........ :P..... though I do kiss my pets........ :) Do you let your pets touch your face or mouth with their tongue ? Do you let them lick your face ?

I rarely touch him with my hands since you just end up smelling like dog for the rest of the day, let stand I let him lick my face. He smells out of his mouth like hell. When he was a puppy and I was still a lot younger as well I sometimes let him do it, but it was different, his tongue was still the size of the top of my pink being able to just direct it to your cheek. Currently when a kid walks up to him and he gives them a nice slobber it's..... gross.... their entire face will be covered in dog slime in one go as he goes with his big tongue over their face. And you will smell like dog for a long time due to that.

I've had dogs most of my life and NEVER let them lick my face. They lick their a$$es!!!! I did let my rabbit lick my forehead a few times, because it was so small (no saliva dribbles!) and because it rarely interacted with me, although I would feed it salad first and wash with anti-bacterial soap afterwards! It makes me sick when people kiss dogs on the mouth. I once watched a show about 'Hollywood' pets. it was generally people who had really unusual things like full-size apes and crocodiles etc, but one woman kept wolves. She had about 3/4 in a compound by her house and she would just about french-kiss them. The wolf had it's tongue right down her throat! It was almost enough to make me vomit!

licking to each other - picture of tiger licking to each other.
No,i don't let my dog licking into my face or anywhere.I like to keep myself clen and hygienic,so i won't let him do that. This is because pets will always like to lick their body and everywhere, icluding their private part too. So,the same tongue gona lick you..So i feel quite disgusting about that. This is the main reason i don't allow him to lick me.

That's a nice one. They do have a tendency to lick our faces, don't they?:) I do not let my dog lick my face, there are a few reasons to it. The first one is that he does not brush his teeth each day. LOl. and the smell that he has in his mouth, is not a perfume smell.. But i can tell you that when i am sleeping, he does get away with that, alote of times i wake up to find out that somthing is licking my face.:)

I don't go out of my way to get doggy kisses and kitty kisses but I don't freak out, either. The vet said to us long ago that it's better to have the animals kiss our baby than his grandmother kissing him. That's because the pets' mouths have less of the germs that make us sick in them than other humans do. It is also why you're more likely to get gangrene from a human bite than an animal one. Cats actually have an anti-biotic kind of enzyme in their saliva. I tell my hubby that when he's playing with them and they trap and lick his arm that they are cleaning it good before eating it.

I try not to let my dog lick me on the face. He tries so hard, though. Every once in a while, he gets me when I'm not paying attention. He's quick. I'm so grossed out when he gets me. He's a very clean dog, but still.

there is an old wife's tale here in canada, if you have wound and you let your dog lick it it will heal. the saliva of a dog is said to have antibactial properties.

Labrador 'Ruby' - My lab Ruby at 12 months old on a walk in a field
I don't encourage it but I don't freak out when it happens and I get a kiss. Now a little dog psycology lesson is needed here I think. When you see two friendly dogs together and they have just met, they lick each other's mouth. When they are in a more restful mood, say after a nice long walk, they will groom each other by licking their eyes and inside their ears. Now we have hands to use in place of a tongue and if we carress a dogs face and ears gently we are doing the same grooming and they love it. To those who say they don't touch their dog because of the smell then frankly you shouldn't own a dog. It is like never touching a child - not good psycologically. To those who say dog saliva must be dirty - well even though you don't lick ars*s, human saliva is also pretty potent and you can get a badly infected bite from someone. It is the first stage of digesting food. Not to be messed with.

I certainly don't encourage them to do it. Sometimes I get a quick lick but my dogs are really very good as they know I don't like it.

I started a very similar discussion a few months ago! Most people although they loved their pets very much did not let their pets lick their face or mouth, just like me!

As far as germs go your dogs mouth is most likely cleaner than your own mouth, and perhaps your whole body. Dogs have natural disinfectants in their saliva..we do not. A cut that a dog licks on a daily basis will heal faster than one without any medicine on it. It also has an anti itch property to it. Fact is, it might be annoying but our dogs may be washing things from us that are harmful to us when they lick our faces. When my dog licks my son's face he is actually warning of high blood sugar or low blood sugar. He can tell by licking my son and smelling his breath if he is feeling okay or if he is high or low. So if your dog does this constantly, and you have a hard time stopping it, perhaps your breath or something about you seems unhealthy to him and he is trying to wash it off. Of course he could just be licking you cus he luvs you but there are real reasons for dogs to do what they do sometimes. If we hadn't paid attention to our dog licking our son obsessively our son would not have survived to see five years old! Just another take on this :)

Absolutely not! Have you seen what bits your pet licks?? We have bacteria in our mouths but dogs have bacteria that is harmful to us. They lick their privates and any sores they might have, they scratch and bite at fleas and mites and any skin irritations. It's fine for them to do this but not for them to share those germs with us. We could get worms or other problems.

Ms Tickle there is no way that could happen. Most of the parasites and worms etc that a dog might carry are not transmittable to humans. It is a medical fact that their mouths are cleaner than ours. The saliva is an antibacterial to us....and this I have seen with my own eyes. My mother used to have our beagle lick the scratches we got from running around on a farm all day among barbed wire and such. Our dog would lick the scratches and they would be gone in a couple of days instead of a week or two like cuts that she didn't lick. I don't know where you got your facts from but you should probably take your dog to the vet if she has worms or fleas. What your dog licks has nothing to do with how many germs are in its mouth at one time. They regulate the amount of bacteria in their mouth because they cannot brush their teeth like we do. Every animal has bacteria. What kind of germs do you suppose you pass on to someone that you are kissing?

I used to let my dog "kiss" my chin but never my mouth or nose. I've also seen ppl let their pet lick off their spoon or fork and then go on eating with it. I couldn't do that...I think it's gross. LIVE IN PEACE

I don't care for my pets to lick my face. My husband used to let one of his cats lick his nose. It grossed me out. I told him do you know where your cat's tongue has been? I have given kisses to my cat on his forehead or maybe give him Eskimo kisses (nose to nose), but that's it as far as kisses go. And I would never let my pet lick my mouth. That is just nasty in my opinion.

Well it's not a very pleasant experience at all! I grew up with dogs as my dad used to breed them and the pups, as they got playful used to lick my face when I picked them up. I used to pull face away but they were so excited they just used to jump up even harder, so I often got a good licking. All I can say is that I didn't catch any terrible diseases and I'm still around. But I still don't like it one bit, but if it happens I wouldn't worry too much about it..:-)

I have to agree with what ya'll are saying. I don't even like for my puppy to get his cold wet nose on my face much less lick me on the face or mouth. It makes me sick to see the way some people let their dogs lick all over their babies who can't protest or push the animal away and the parents are getting video of it!!! My oldest granddaughter used to let dogs lick her in the face and kiss her until one day when she saw one eating either dog or cat poop, that cured her right away. hahaha

Yes, I let my cats lick my face. It is part of their natural way of showing affection and trying to care for you as you do for them by grooming you. It's just their way of saying you're my person and you're part of my family and I love you. In no way would I ever discourage my cats or my parents cats from doing such a thing. Yes, I might clean my face afterwards, however I would never discourage them trying to return the love and care that I give them.
