i have gotten some really great bargains at garage sales, some antiques, that sort of thing and paid little money for, like for instance, i bought some antique child's wooden blocks for 75 cents and saw ones similar on ebay for $10.00!!

Well, not too many garage sales take place in our country, but it is not uncommon to find clearance sales of clothes, footwear and books by the shops which want to get rid of the old and make way for the new. I have happened to come across some great bargains. I recently went to a book sale where the store-keeper had put up books that had not sold for a long time, and I mean, a really long time. I managed to find a couple of great books that have been out of print for ages. Books that I had been hunting in vain, elsewhere, and I got them for a song!!! The clothes are another matter altogether. They tend to be very shop-soiled and I usually don't buy them.

I really really wanted a WOK for my last birthday. I told my dad and he was prepared to buy me one, BUT a few weeks before he found a brand new WOK for $1 at a yard sale and just gave it to me! He was happy, and I was glad I didn't have to use up my birthday wish on a kitchen item :)

Love, love, love garage sales! Once I found a real genuine silk print two piece ladies suit (blouse and skirt) for $2.50. It was gorgeous! And, I got so many compliments. I know that the original owner must have paid $250 or more for it brand new. Then my other big deal was a giant box of baby clothes for five bucks. My little kid got so much wear out of those. And, they wore better than the expensive store bought ones, especially considering the spit up and other baby goofs that happen! LOL!

I'm an absolute garage/moving sale Psycho! ;), I also treasure hunt on trash day and have found so many incredible things, from computers to works of art and more... I'm lucky to live near 4 universities and colleges and wehen these kids and teachers throw stuff out... it's all good! :) I have many good stories about what I've found... from vaccume cleaners, to pots and pans, clothing and shoes... on and on, but I would love to see what other people have found... This is a very good discussion to start on MyLot, as "finding stuff" is a very desireable topic among the MyLot family: Expert Village for you! :) http://www.expertvillage.com ... Just in case you need to know how to fix what you have found! :)

I don't go to garage sales very often, but one time I ended up driving past one and deciding to stop. I looked around and saw this signed baseball; I couldn't really tell who's autograph was on it, and the person who was doing the selling didn't know, it was her son's and he had told her to go ahead and sell all of his belongings, too, because he was grown and not living there anymore. She wanted $5 bucks for it, which I thought was a bit steep not knowing who signed it. But on a hunch, I bought it and took it to a Sports Memorabilia shop. The owner was so amazed; it was an autographed Roberto Clemente baseball. He told me the baseball was worth close to $300 dollars. I still have that baseball, seeing as how I am a big baseball fan and love these kinds of things. Although if the value goes up some more, I could do something good with that money.

I have been wanting to go to one of those since I know that sometimes you can really get great stuffs at bargain prices. There are a few of this things going on near the place where I live. May be it is time to make a point to visit them and look for those little things that I may not get at the hypermarkets or the malls.

When I was a teen I used to hold garage sales for extra cash. My relatives would give me stuff to sell for a commission. What I didn't sell at home one weekend I would take out to the swap and shop at the speedway. It was a great way to make money. My dad remodeled the bathroom one year and I sold the used toilet! It is weird what some people will buy. I love going to them on Saturday mornings when I get up early enough. I look through the paper and make a list of the interesting ones then navigate. My hubby end up going in circles. Lucky he has a good sense of humor.

I also enjoy going to yard sales. Here in Southern California you can find them all year round. On any given weekend there are dozens of yard sales in my neighborhood alone. Here's my best yard sale story: After announcing that it was my birthday at a yard sale, I was able to buy a brand new letterman's jacket (it was a movie production promo jacket) for $8.00. But wait, it gets better! The attractive woman who sold it to my insisted on giving me a kiss as well. I said sure. So I went in for a little peck on the cheek and she smooched me on the lips! Then she gave me a second kiss for good luck or whatever. That really made my day!

yes i do and in fact i have experienced to actually sell stuffs in a garage/yard sales. its nice to sell old/unused stuffs instead of just putting them in your attic or basement. i have fun buying in a garag/yard sale coz you get nice stuffs in a cheaper price...some stuffs are also unique or also come in handy.

Well, garage sales, yard sales and one more place is swap meet that we have here.I love to visit these places, cause sometimes you get so good deals, and you feel so proud of yourself that"I AM A GOOD SHOPPER".:) Yes I like to go to garage sales and swap meet,Once we had some guest coming over,we have 2 bedrooms in over apartment,so we need a bed for other room,we already bought a mattress, all we needed was bed frame and all accessories. So,we were just searching,we saw d=some furniture stores and furniture outlets and penny saver to see if we could get any good deal but " NO ".Then it was a weekend and we went to one garage sale where we found a brand new, without any scratch, solid wood bed frame with dresser mirror, two night stands and 3 crystal table lamps, all new packed, and they worth actually about 1100 or 1200$,and she sold us only for $300.I felt so happy,I do not usually like to buy furniture or mattress from such places because it might be old and used, but it was brand new,it has plastic all wrapped around and we liked its design too.So that was my story.

It's not something I do every weekend or go out to actively look for, but I do like to get through the ranks every now and again to take a look at a few things. I'll actually get a feeling to go to a couple, especially if I am driving by and looking to kill a few minutes or looking to find a bargain. No real good stories; I know a friend that bought a valuable baseball card at one when a mom sold her son's cards while he was off at college. Only a few times a year do I go, when the weather is good.

I've got tons of stories. Too many to bring up here but I actually can best your vacuum cleaner deal. I bought a nice little Sanyo vacuum for $2.00 at a house sale four or five years ago and I've been using it ever since. LOL

there is nothing wrong going to a garage sale. it will mean savings for you. what may be unuseful for one person may be useful to another. at the same time you can buy other items you need with the money. it is just being practical.

I used to go all the time when I lived on an Air Force base. It's very convinient since people like to get rid of unwanted stuff. I've found brand new CD's for 50 cents, DVD's for $1, games for $1-$5 (original price around $50) and many others. I don't go anymore though. :(

I bought a nice dresser that needed to be repainted at a garage sale 4 years ago...still use it. The thing is...i carried it down the block to get it home. It took me 3 trips 2 for the drawers and one for the dresser. People sure stopped and stared at me walkin down the street with this dresser. it was a really funky neon green when i bought it...now its blue with dark blue and silver sponge painting

My dad used to be a yard sale fanatic and I'd tag along with him every Saturday and Sunday morning. I was always amazed at my dad's ability to find the homes that were having the sales. He doesn't give up until he finds the place. I always thought this was hilarious because my mom would always complain that my dad can go to any length to drive and find his yard sales but he can't be bothered to take her to the store for grocery shopping. I just liked to tag along and check out the things people had for sale. I usually bought books and little things like that whenever I went.
