Has anyone ever looked at the Megan's Law website in your state? I just got do looking since we moved into a new neighborhood. And it shocked me to see how many people in my City let alone how many people in the state are offenders. And how many people live so close to my new home also. Has anyone else ever looked this up on there state site?

It sure is. I'm fairly new to USA and there are a lot of things I am being exposed to that were really not an issue where I use to live. I'm sitting here wondering if I should pay the $10 to get the full report. hmm!

Well I have never done that. Just knowing where they live is scaery enough without knowing what they did.

The link that was posted in the previous reply took me to a website where I had to register my credit card to view any info. I did a web search and found this site:
http://www.nsopr.gov/
It's free and even shows pictures of the offenders, lists their residence address, their place of employment, and the make/model of car that they drive.

It is so very frightning to think about offenders living in our communities. One would hope that they have changed their ways, but as we know, many become repeat offenders. I used the link provided by a previous poster to discover 25 in my small zipcode (not my entire county, just my little zip code!!!) There are only 2800 living in this zip code!! Several of the 25 are very close to my home. It does give one chills to think about.

I've never heard of the Megan's Law website, however the local police department has a website of offenders in the area. It is shocking how many there are. There are so many crazy people in this world. Also the department of corrections has another website with offenders through-out the state.

I have checked the Megan's Law website in my area. I also noticed that our newspaper printed an article and picture of a man that recently moved into a nearby neighborhood that is on the list. At the end it reminded people to check it. I think that there are a lot of people that don't know that there is such a resource.

Yep, I keep tabs on them in my area. That is how we found out an offender who had three charges with a children under 12 years of age, was living right across the street from my girl's school.

My wife and I were helping a family friend to find a new place, and we started looking at certain areas for places. Out of curiosity, we actually began searching her old neighborhood, and came up with a small list. But we used that site to search through potential new neighborhoods because she has children... it was actually a bit creepy. There were more than a quiet few, we'll just say that, in some areas you would think had better ratios. It's an interesting site to look through, just in case.

I have our website in my favorites list and I check it regularly. I was suprised too, being the small area we are from, at how many there were. Luckily there is only one that is sort of close to where we are. Hopefully it stays that way.

I haven't been able to see the Megan's Law one but I did look at our state's and the thing I disliked was that it did not give a lot of details about the crime. In my opinion there is a lot different between a 19 year that had willing contact with a 16 and a true offender.
