when people buy Stocks, we say they are making financial investment. however, when people go to some places like casino, we say they are gambling. Some people say they are the same. what is your opinion? do you often go to casino? do you buy stocks?

Hello, shenzhouplaza,I think the stock market in your country is rising crazily, it seems that many people have 'investment' in the stock market even they may not understand how the market works,it may be very dangerous as they can not bear the short term loss most of the time. I think the stock price is somewhat 'controlled' by some large investors, they can buy or sell in large quantities to affect the market,so it is not fair for those individuals.Individuals always think they can earn money by investment. It may be even fairer in the casinos as everyone have the chance to win and it is only due to luck, casino does not control anything there but they get home advantage, players know they have more chance for losing but they still gamble. They hope they can be the lucky ones.

Thank you for your comment about stock market and casino. They are some differences between them.but on one point, they are the same. that is those who participate in the activities want to get windfall by chances.

I'm not agree that some large investors controlled the stock market,in fact they are too big for it,but you have a point that there are people who knows nothing about the stock market (not even the P/E)buy shares because they think it's a winning game, they come in when prices have risen for many years and the party is almost over, the moment the stocks made a correction they sell and made a big loss,I invest for more then 20 years in the stock market,I'm an individual and not a large investor but I 'm doing it quite well, because on a long term base stocks are a winning game,a casino is a losing game on long term. About the chinese market,I don't know enough of it and hear different story about,The P/E is too high on this moment but there are some stocks that should made it not relevant ( but I have heard this before on other markets before they are going down),I 'm not investing in it. The European markets aren't expensive but after a rise during more then 4 years they aren't cheap anymore, but as long there are people who talks about a possible crash, the risk is minimal.A crash is predicted so many times except the moment when it happened.

Interesting question. Both are gambling of sort and it is hard to say whether they are different. For stocks, people use fundamental/technical analysis to try to guess where the price would go. So in this sense, it is a calculated risk - not purely gambling. On the other hand for casino games, "professional" gamblers make use of strategies and possibility evaluations to enter into a calculated bet. So in this sense, it is not strictly gambling any old how. So actually, yes, casino and stock - they are quite the same! :P

I agree with what you said.yeah. Regarding stock, people can predict its ups and down according to the company's operation and achievement. casino is quite another thing. People win by trying their luck.
