Do you clean your own nails or you go the salon?

I clean my own nails because I don't really trust other people. Sometimes most of them aren't good and can give you ingrown. I watched the Tyra Show and they had this episode about girls who goes to the salon to have their nails done and this girl got some viral infection and the virus went all over her legs. Now, her legs are full of wounds and big scratches and the bad part about it is, its lifetime that she can't take away the marks anymore. Some salons don't use sterilized nail cleaners that's why the virus is building up. So for me, it is safer just to clean your own nails at home.

I do clean up my nails but at home. Reason i dont have so much time to move to the salon for this job. Rather i would clean up when ever i find time. I wont like to spend money on things which i can easily manage myself at home.

It will be good to clean our own nails at home. Going salons for nail cleaning is not a good option.I clean my nails at home using herbal things such as lemon juice etc.

honestly speaking I'm proud to say that my hubby are the one who clean and cut my nails coz for him he can do it better than me and it keeps me fall asleep. but before we have a beautician she goes in our house evry sunday to clean and cut our nails. My mom once told me that never ever cut the ingrown for if you haven't touch it, it will not grow leave as it is and it will not grow. so since then my ingrown never growit also goes with the hair of our armpit. ^_^

That's good! Maybe other people who can't clean their own nails can do that, just bring their own tools for safety.

u know , civilization is one crazy thing in some ways . Women,since they discovered the two words 'pedicure' and 'manicure' they've gone gaga ............heheheeeeeeee. Lots of them just can't do without the now traditional cleaning and fixing of nails .
For me, am a guy , l do my thing myself . Besides, am a shy person , even though guys do stuffs like that , l wouldn't be free like them to do it .

My boyfriend's cleaning his nails on his own also. But when we go to the salon, we only do the foot sap or the scrub. I guess that's the only safe one or not even I'm not sure!

I've always thought it would be great to be able to afford that luxury of always going out and getting my nails done, but now after what you said I think you scared me out of it! I paint my nails and do them myself at home mainly because the salon is too expensive. But now that you told me about that virus, I might never want to go to a salon to get my nails done even if I do come across enough money for that pampering! I think I'll do my own nails from now on thank you... This is just fine... :)

Good Lord! I opened up a topic like this so some people would know and I can help or try forcing them not to go the salon anymore to have their nails done. Better to do it all my yourself, and its safer!

I'm sorry to hear about the bad news about the girl you mentioned.
Yeah, some salons don't use sterilized nail cleaners. They should have been responsible for the safety of those people who came to their salons.
But if something bad happened, who can make up for the loss?

I saw that episode. I find that so sad. I cried when they showed it. I would never trust a salon to do my nails, there is one at Wal Mart and every time I pass by it I feel sick. The smell is to strong to bare. I would rather clean my own, I know my hands better than a salon.

Good thing you saw that episode! I feel bad for the girls, but even before I saw that show I was already cleaning my nails on my own because some people in the salon cut my nails so short and its painful already. So from then on I never trust them anymore.

Of course,I clean them on my own.It's not because I don't trust other people,but I don't think it's necessary to go the salon and let others help me to clean my nails.Moreover,I think it just waste money,unless I am so rich and have no place to spend it.Even though it will make our nails so beautiful,I don't support this idea.Another reason is the same as what the author sayes.

You're right about that! And I know salons in the States are very very pricey unlike here in our country Philippines there are a lot of cheap manicure and pedicure all over the places! Now, that's scary.

Oh my god. I agree with you. Sometimes it seems like a treat to be pampered, but that poor girl didnt get a treat at all.

Me too, i clean my own nails. I don't trust anymore the pedicurist. I really have a bad experience when i have my toe nails pedicured. The pedicurist, accidentally cut and wounded my big toe when she's trying to remove the ingrown nail and it really took me 2 weeks to have it cured. So with that experience, i really have to do it alone. and besides, some of them does'nt really clean that well.

i do my on nails instead of going to a salon.because i think going to a salon for a simple job such as cleaning your nails is a waste of money.as you mentioned some of those salons would not use sterlised needles and blades.so its better to do it at home

I have also heard about that viral infection and I wouldn't go to the salon for a manicure or a pedicure. My mother does religiously and I am trying to get her to stop or at least go less. She loves all her special treatments, but I think they are just taking advantage of an elderly lady who like the company and they book her far too frequently.

I agree. I have my own kit and I clean my own nails because I am afraid of the accidents that might happen if they are not careful enough cleaning my nails.
