For health benefits you are supposed to eat 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables. With that it should be more veggies then fruits but at least 2 a day minimum. That makes sure you get the vitamins and minerals needed for your recommended daily allowance.

According to the hierarchy of food intake, we are supposed to take two to three servings of fruits each day. However, personally I never follow this guideline. I eat fruit when I feel like eating it. I know this is not healthy but I am used to it for so long. If you only eat fruit once a month this is absolutely not good for you. You should at least eat fruit twice or three times a week the least. But it all depend on you my friend. Don't follow me because my eating habit is not one of those to be followed.

Research proves that if you increase your intake of fruit and veg, you can reduce your risk of getting cancer or cardiovascular diseases and lower your blood pressure.
As a rule of thumb, everyone over the age of five should eat at least five 80g portions of fruit or vegetables each day.

On average the USDA currently puts out that a person should eat "2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables per day, with that amount to increase or decrease in relation to a corresponding increase or decrease in energy expenditure and caloric intake. Basically this translates to anywhere from 5-13 servings of vegetables and fruits daily depending on how active you are and how many calories you consume."

Remember to choose a variety of fruits and vegetables from all five vegetable subgroups. The vegetables subgroups are:

So no one piece of fruit every month or so doesn't work.
At worst you should be eating one piece of fruit a day.
