If you have only just got your dog, I would take him to the vet straight away for a check up and maybe he'll need some shots to protect from various diseases that dogs can get. When I have owned dogs I have nearly always done their grooming myself, a good brushing every day and a bath now and again. As they were not show dogs, I didn't bother with professional grooming as it can be quite expensive.

these will have to be observed at all times because dogs can succumb fast to illness. even if we stick to those scheduled visits to the veterinarian, there will still be times when extra visits to the doctor will become necessary. they can get sick anytime. as for grooming, just like you, we do it ourselves. we can ask the vet as for the proper schedule of bathing the dog. it is true that it is important to brush their hair each day, especially chow chow because they have such dense hair.

chow chows are very beautiful. i have had two, they are both gone now. we had kept to our scheduled visits to the veterinarian all the time. chow chows are sensitive. do not risk its health. bring the dog immediately to the veterinarian. then observe the dates of the scheduled visits to the veterinarian. it is of utmost importance that you do. if you will notice anything wrong with your pet at anytime, bring it immediately to its doctor. never fail to do this. a chow chow is a treasure to have, they are loving and very protective of their masters.

Bring him into the vet for his shots and initial check up. Every couple of years he will need a rabies booster. I don't take my dogs to the vet unless there is something wrong.
As for grooming, vets usually don't do it. Professional groomers can shave down your Chow, but that is very expensive. Keeping up with the coat yourself is very easy. All you need is a good pin brush and metal comb and you can keep him mat free with a good weekly brushing.
