If you know nothing about cars and intend to buy one, I would recommend you take someone with you who knows a lot because a car can look real shiny and new, but underneath have lots of problems and can cost you a lot to repair.
Also, find out which is the most popular model car in your country, because that means a lot of people own that model and there'll be plenty of repair shops and spare parts when it needs service. A popular model in the UK where I live has always been Ford and spares are plentiful and reasonably priced, so my car has nearly always been a Ford.
