is a standard really better on gas?

All my life i heard that a stick can save more gas and an automatic. is this true?

If you drive it properly and shift at the right time, they do get better gas mileage. Unfortunately standard transmissions in cars are rather difficult to come by. When I tried to get my last car in a standard...people looked at me like I had extra heads and they told me people don't want standard transmissions.
I much prefer a standard over an automatic!

ive heard that too, the only way to truyly know is to drive a stick and calculate the miles and better gas mileage!

standard gets better gas mileage if you knwo how to drive it right, if you beat the crap out of the car and have the petal to the floor all the time than obviously not, but if you drive normal than yeah it going to be much better gas mileage.
