Do I believe that I can be paid from overseas with an ATM card?

I have been in contact with some people and have been very careful about information and such. They say that I have earned some money and that they will send me an ATM card so I can draw money that I earned.? Do I believe that this is legitimate? I would be so disappointed if it ended up costing me money or time in jail? Do any of you know anything about this? Thanks in advance.

How did you earn the money? I would be very careful about this as it sounds like a scam to me. If you have earned it, then it should be legitimate, but it sounds like a scheme to me. Whatever you do, do not give out any personal information.

I am aware to not give out personal information. I really only talked to them and refused to pay fees etc. I am concerned that I would be nabbed at the ATM machine anyway. So it is not worth it. Thanks for responding.

I would be very leery if they are asking you to pay fees. Legitimate places do not need your money. They will pay you not the other way around.

No fees just wish my address and name and stuff. They would send it and I would go to get money? Though that ATM's didn't have a bunch of money for an individual to withdraw? Anyway, I am not doing anything at this point.

Was no website and I had responded to an email and argued the whole time about paying fees etc. Always insisted on bank to bank transfer since my banker set up an account that can accept money but no one can get it without me. Anyway, they still wish to share some money with me since I had 'worked' with them. I was curious and started a discussion here to see what others had to say and I am impressed with my friends and others that have things to say.

If you didn't do anything to earn this money, I'd be very leery of anything they said. I would not think it's legitimate and would contact the FBI and let them track down these people. It's like someone telling you that you've won a lottery and you know you didn't enter a lottery...well, it's just not true...just a scam to try and get money from you.

Hi again, I have been reviewing websites and blogs at ReviewMe.com and hopefully around the 4th I should have payment proof. What you need for this is an active blog. I wonder if the site you have could qualify? I have earned $42.50 so far doing this, in a month. I believe they will pay me because I researched them first.

Sounds sketchy to me... You would have to provide your address to them, which would make me nervous, and any other info they may have asked for.
They can have these cards coded, and can track the transactions - they'll know where you are and what you are buying. How does that sound?
my rule of thumb is if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!

I have been paid with gift cards, but never with an ATM card. It smells fishy to me.

It sounds like you are being careful but some of these people are experienced con people who are bilking so many innocent people out of their hard earned money. If you know what you did to earn the money then you should be able to get it with out getting in any trouble.
I haven't heard of an ATM scam, I have gotten those checks in the mail saying that I have won money. Good Luck

yup. that's one thing, too. did you do some works or stuffs for this people and that you are getting paid in return? if not, then, ask them why they are sending you money for? i am sure they have reasons if they are legitimate ones. if non legitimate, they will always make lame reasons for you. you'll sure know if they are telling the truth or not.

They would never consider a bank to bank transfer for me just emailing them back and forth and playing along to some degree. I never knew how it would turn out and they always 'found' someone else to move some money for them. Anyway, it was fishy from the start and I never considered them real. Often would accuse them of being false people. lol Thanks for responding both of you.

Do you actually know what you did to earn the money? If not, *run* the other way.
If you think you legitimately earned it, what information do they want to mKe this payment? If you have to reveal *anything*, forget it! Don't even let them persuade you to create a pin #. If they are legit, they'll *tell you* the pin #!
Check it out with your local FBI office; they may have word of any scam--or not.

Hi,
Been wondering how you are! Seeing you online much more often...maybe things are resolving. Can you tell me more about this in email? Right off the bat my bullshit alarm is going off, but I would know for sure if I had more detail. I can research just like all the other things I have researched for legitimate money that you know about, and see if this is workable or not.

My whole point in doing this with them was that if the money was real they could do a bank to bank transfer. They would never do that. So I brought this discussion to Mylot hoping to share and by example be a warning depending on the response and it has been good.
Thanks for responding in this discussion.

If this happens to me I'd be extremely careful while dealing with them.I will not pay one cent for anything and won't reveal any informations above what they already have , that being the contact information. They often trick people into thinking that they earned money and make them pay for forms and fees.As long as you don't give out any information or money you'd be fine.Personally,it doesn't sound good to me.

I would be cautious Willowlady. I would not send my ATM card to anybody for any reason, not even money. You might end up loosing more than it's worth.
NEVER send anyone your ATM or your information.

They want to send me a ATM card where I would go withdraw money. I am reluctant since I don't think I could withdraw 1000 dollars or more from any machine.
I have thought them to be fake all along anyway.
Thanks for responding.

i can share you with some of my experience. I live in the U.S and i have debit card but originally i am from Ukraine. So every time i go there i am using this card to withdraw money. But the only disadvantage it has is location. Over there in Ukraine there is big fee when you withdraw one hundred dollars, it will take three dollars from your for using their ATM and bank in the U.S will charge three dollars . So finally to withdraww hundred dollars you are paying six dollars.

stuffs like this is very risky. if you have doubts, don't send your personal informations quickly. atleast give some time to know them well... the company who is sending you money at all. i mean, for sure, they won't just send you money if they don't have real reasons to send you some. check their company first if it's legitimate or not. most are just scams and might even try to get personal informations from you for their selfish intentions. just be clever. know things first before giving out informations. ask if you are in doubt. there's nothing wrong with asking.

There are a lot of on-line businesses that are starting to pay people with ATM cards instead of sending checks. They recharge the card at each pay cycle. Even PayPal is offering this. But you need to make sure it is a legitimate business and has a good track record. Also if they charge a set of fee for the card then you need to watch out because they might just take your money and send you a bogus card. If you are all ready doing business with this company then it might be ok but if you have to enter any addition information just to get the card I would shy away from it.

Something just doesn't seem right does it?
I suppose if they're sending you an ATM card, you could take it to a different machine to the one you usually use (no reason - just in case). Withdraw whatever cash you can and sit on it, along with copies of all the related correspondence. That way, if there is anything illegal going on, you can return the money and prove your innocence.
After 6 months or so, there shouldn't be any comebacks.

Bank machines have cameras and I could be traced I believe. I think it a fraud and not going there. Thought it a good discussion and may have saved someone in the future. I hope so. Thanks for responding to me.

Humm...did you really earn the money by doing something? Could they not pay you through pay pal?
I would be weary too...

Only communicated with them and they would never do bank to bank transfer. So they seem to be frauds. Thanks much for responding.

No problem on the response. I'm sorry it took so long. I haven't been online in days...and not much before that. So now I'm playing catch up LOL :)

It sounds fishy to me, and like others have said, I would be very careful not to give out any information. I guess it might depend on where this ATM came from whether or not I might trust it. If you did something legitimate to earn the card, I might be a bit less concerned, especially about the jail part, but if someone was just sending it for no apparant reason, I would run away as fast as I could.

This screams SCAM.
They would need to open up a bank account for you in order to issue a ATM card in your name. Unless your "employer" is really a bank, then naturally they can do it. Otherwise, it is quite the usual practice to open a bank account in person. There are exceptions but very few - whichever the case, you don't have a stranger opening a bank account for you.
You should report it to the police and have them investigate.
