I was in the mirror combing my hair and putting on makeup getting ready to depart. I saw a glance of something that appeared to be white... I did a double take.. This couldn't be so... Not me... I was just bragging to some folks about having no grey. I quickly plucked it before anyone noticed... I have come to realize if you live you will get older. So do you think gray hair is a result of worry? why do people gray before others. Is it genetics?

I don't know why some people get gray hair before others do. I'm only 25 and I've seen some in my hair before. I just pull them out. My hubby actually saw one in my hair one day and I made him pull it out while we were in the car. I told him that he was the reason I had them. LOL

haha. this is a funny response. thanks sweetgirl! hehe.
anyway, pulling them off is one good way of getting rid of them. although we can't stop them from coming back. atleast, lessen it's presence.

you didn't say how old you were...i am in my 40s and the temples are just starting to go grey...i use a colouring mousse that is temp to cover it...fortunately i am not too gray yet...
does gray hair mean you are old?
but as for your question, yes, i think it is genetics...i have heard of people turning grey in their teens!!

yup. i think it's in our genes, too. i have friends in highschool back then who already are suffering from gray hair. i am already turning 29 within this year but i don't have gray hairs yet. it depends from a person's genes. sometimes they do have gray hairs earlier, some have in a later time.

I will be 32 and I have seen a few strands in my hair.I pick with my kids and tell them its from them stressing me out,but a serious note I dont know why.My grandmother always told me its a sign of goodluck to have it so young.I know a lady in her late 30's and has a whole head full and its pretty. That might be genetic I really have no clue.

I started to get gray hair in my early 30's. I can see them pretty good now. In my mind a lot of times i do not feel older but my body sure looks and feels like it, lol. My grandmother on my moms side never had a gray hair in her life and she never dyed her hair either.

I think it is genetics. My hair started graying when I was in my teens. My daughter is 12 and I found a gray hair in her head. I am 35 and half of my hair is gray and I hit the salon to get it colored just as soon as I see roots, LOL! Lately I have had to have a meeting with Ms. Clairol because I haven't been able to afford the salon anymore! So, yeah, I know your pain!

My hair is naturally light brown and I would be able to see gray, I try to keep it colored light so I don't see it. I haven't seen any yet at 40, but my sis is 37 and she has some, doesn't color her hair either. I don't know what my response will be when I do notice it, we all get old I guess. My mom always frosted her hair too, maybe for the same reason.

I think worry and diet can also be a factor in getting gray hairs. I find them every now and then (since I was 26), usually after a particualrly extended stressful time at work. I just pluck them out and they won't grow back for months or years. I'm sure once the genetics kick in, though, they won't be so eaxy to hold back.
But, if this is your first one, you probably have some time still before you have to start worrying about dying them.

I can sympathize because my hair is salt and pepper but I had grey hair at the age of nine. I found out that we lose the pigment in our hair and that's what causes it sometimes stress can excelerate the process though but the grey gives an essence of being regal. I remember the way young men used to appoach me with like " Hey baby" "yo mami" but since I have the grey they say things like " Hello Miss you look very lovely" one young man told me "When I get older I want my wife to look just like you" That was the sweetest thing I ever heard so love your grey and it will love you back.

I heard that gray hair is a sign of wisdom! So don't fret LOL. As for me I have so many that I dye my hair to hide them. I also heard if you pull them out 2 will grow back. Hmmmmmmmm. makes me wonder. LOL!

Usually gray hair is genetic, but there are people who have depleted immune systems due to disease and extreme stress and it does impact their hair. It can turn gray and/or fall out. In my family pre-mature gray hair runs on my mom's side. Both my brother and I had gray hair in our thirties so I've been coloring my hair for years.

It's genes. I wonder how it was that the worry rumour got started anyway?
I found my first stray at 12 and I have not a whole lot anymore that isn't. It wasn't long ago that I realised I had passed the fifty fifty marker and am now more gray than the original model. It is just a family thing, so I have accepted it.

Well, it is inevitable to have gray hairs, right? Let us just think that when we do already have gray hairs, we have become wiser? Besides, I can see you are aging so gracefully, so congratulate yourself. Keep it up.

Well the textbooks say that it is genetics. I just know that I hate it!! I began getting some strands around 42-43 years old. Recently I begin using a rinse-out color in an attempt to hide them! It is the type that one applies at home and it slowly washes out over 30 washings. I am so afraid of the permanent colors...as they lead to having 'roots'..which I despise!
