I'm travling back to texas soon, and I'm going by plane. I taking my daughter and my yougest is staying with her daddy in maryland. I wanted to get a booster seat for her, she is 3 and she weigh's 30 pounds. I don't want to carry around her big car seat. So is it safe to get her one or should I wait?

Here's the American Academy of Pediatrics blip on booster seats (scroll down a wee bit) http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm My son is almost the same weight, we have him a britax, he'll probably fit in that for a few more years. A five point harness is the safest. I felt even more better about my choice, but really sad about this family in this video http://www.elitecarseats.com/New-on-ECS/5-point-harness/index.cat Britax seats are airline approved too, it's really easy to get a toddler to stay in their carseats on the plane, the staff onboard know how to install it too ;)

That was so sad I started to cry, I'm going to go get a better car seat and wait for the booster seat for a while.

mememama, thank you so much for posting this great info. i too have been looking into changing my daughter's car seat to a booster seat. but i watched the video and now have second thoughts about it. i will look for the one that the video recommends. the one with the 5 point harness for up to 80 pounds. thanks a lot for the great info.

Safety is the number one most important thing to consider, but don't forget to also take the laws into consideration. I know that the laws here in Michigan are pretty strict when it comes to child restraints. I'm not sure at what point they can be moved from a car seat to a booser seat here, but anyone under 48 inches tall must ride in a booser seat in Michigan. My 13 year old son is not much taller than that, and if he hadn't hit a growth spurt he would have to ride in one now. My oldsest son's girlfriend is only a couple of inches taller than him. She is in her 20's. If either or them were any shorter they would legally have to ride in booser seats.
