A good friend of mine recommended to me a clinic in the city which specializes in Chinese Herbal Medicine, I thought why not give it a go, I'm willing to try anything! Well I went along and they were very very thorough with me had a 50 minute consultation and although it was expensive I was prescribed some meds for Depression, Mood Swings, Lethargy and thyroid problems The stuff tastes disgusting and I have to take 5mls three times a day, like I said I'm willing to try anything, I don't feel any different, although I have only taken it 5 days, certainly NO side effects and it's a safer and preferable alternative to antidepressants which my GP keeps trying to prescribe me Do you believe in Herbal medicine, has it worked for you and would you try it?

There is one herbal medicine I do believe in and I know it works. It cures depression, erectile disfunction, renews a sense of humor, fixes appetite problems, stomach disorders and makes people almost worth talking to. Its not really very expensive unless you get caught with it. What is really nice is you can grow it in your closet. Oh yes you are correct to stay away from antidepressents. If you really start researching them it will scare the snot out of you. In some people they will cause permanent nerve damage. In general most herb medicines are horsehockey and at best can be detrimental to your health.

I try to do natural remedies as much as possible because I get bad side effects so many times with prescription medications. I've been able to successfully treat my acid reflux and thyroid problems with natural medicine. I've got links to a bunch of natural health supplements in my blog if you are interested. ~Kythe42 http://lemurianphoenix.blogspot.com

I'm a bit of a science - man when it comes to matters of medicine. I wish you all the best, and hope very much that this treatment works for you, but I'd rather trust medicines that have been trialled properly and have been scientifically proven to work. I know that most GP's are happy to have their patients popping loopy-pills on a daily basis, but if I had a condition that required treatment, I'd still rely on my doctor before turning to the 'herbal viagra' guy in the shopping centre.

what about medical herbalism then? chinese herbalism isn't the only kind, but I think people are more inclined to it because it seems exotic. but good old western herbalism is fascinating and scientific. I want to train for this, but it's a 5 year degree, at the moment I just can't afford to go for it.

Definitely .. when I was still working a dozen or more years ago I went to a Chinese Herbalist and Accupuncturist several times .. My practitioners name was Dr Pagan .. rather unfortunate name for a doctor isn't it .. he had trained in China for 10 years with a Chinese Master Herbalist and Accupuncture specialist .. he was very, very good. My only problem was trying to drink the tea made with the herbs he suggested I drank .. I'm not kidding it was simply the most foul, loathsome stuff you can ever imagine .. and I had to have a large mug brim FULL 3 times a day .. I was just starting to see some results (and mastering keeping the tea down heheh!) .. when I stopped working and became a pauper relying on State benefits .. Dr Pagan said it would take around 3 months for the herbs to really make a lasting effect .. I had enough to last me a month .. and I genuinely did start to feel 'better' with less pain and walking easier ..

No, perhaps not unfortunate to us .. however he said it had given him a lot of trouble and that many folks wouldn't let him prescribe for them as they felt it gave too much of an 'occult' connotation to his chinese herbal remedies ... and that was his words not mine ..

I don't think that's an unfortunate name at all.

I say why not, i would much rather take something herbal providing it has a proven record of helping people, than say being prescribed something else by the Doctor. It is well known that herbal remedies have been used for hundreds of years, and most modern day medicines are based on herbal ingredients to start with. Sometimes, because herbal remedies aren't licensed, the exact side effects and or benefits may not be recognised scientifically and it may be that it is a bit of a placebo, but whatever the case, if it helps then surely that's the right thing. I take herbal Kalms tablets when I feel anxious and for about 9 months last year I was taking St Johns Wort to combat my depression and anxiety. These things worked for me, but not on their own I took them to enable me to feel less paralised about doing things, but I still had to use a huge amount of will power to overcome situations, I even tried getting a few self help books, and some hypnosis CDs. Sounds crazy but it all worked for me.

I believe it can help. I don't buy that it can solve things and make them go away. Although the help I'm sure so do get benefits from herbal medicine but I don't personally use it and I probably won't. ~Joey

i am very much into the Herabl thing. The thing about herbal meds is that you have to give them time to take effect...even more so than with chemical medicaions. Give them a good 4 to 6 weeks before you really start to see a difference. They have to build up in your system first. i know it sounds a bit silly, but it is true. You just won't notice the effects for quite awhile. Then, they usually start to happen gradually so you don't necessarily notcie them so much...so you have to thin about where you were before you started taking them versus whre you are 4 to 6 weeks after starting them.

Chinese Herbalism is not the only kind of Herbalism. Standard Herbalism is fascinating and very effective. I want to train to be a herbalist, but it's a very long (5 year) degree which I can't afford to do right now.

Aconite is a plant which contains natural substances, and is very definitely harmful to the body. it's ridiculous to say that herbs cannot harm the body. if that were true, they wouldn't be able to heal the body either. people lose respect for the fact that herbs have a physical effect on the body. it can be a harmful or a beneficial one. because it works, it CAN be dangerous. the effect they have on the body is physical and real, so we have to be very careful with them.

i didn't believe it before, since i can't understand its theory, but herbal medicine really do the work sometime, so with suspection i may go for it when routine medicine doesn't work. now i find it amazing.

the theory is the same as for synthetic medicines. the herbs contain non synthetic chemicals, which have a physical effect on the body.

I do believe in the use of herbal medicines. The problem is oftentimes, their potential is abused thinking that they are natural, hence they are safe. Ive tried herbal medicines before but I always made sure that I know the plants that are in it so I can do further research. Not all that are natural are safe. They can also rsult in toxicities.

Sure I would try it. But I would probably question the cost. I would think that herbal medication shouldn't cost an arm and a leg unless there is some rare ingredient you are taking. I am all for natural ways of medication. And even though it may not work at first, it can often be very beneficial in the long run. But you also have to have the power of positive thinking. :) Hope it works for you Wolfie! :)

I might be interested in trying some of the herbal remedies. I have many medical problems so I take a lot of medicines. With the herbal remedies there would be much less chance of side effects.

Well honey how did I miss this post - probably cos I am so dizzy! lol I have never tried Herbal Medicine and I have heard mixed reports about how effective it is although on the upside some people rave that it has transformed their lives! It is also worth remembering ,that like traditional medications , herbal remedies can take time to have the desired effect so if you can ,I would say to keep on with this for a few months and then see if you notice any different! I really hope it works for you sweetheart - remember to let me know how you are doing, you hear? xxx big hugs xxx

Hi Wolfie, Being a chinese myself, if given me a choice between western medicine and tradisional chinese herbal medicine, i will always choose the herbs. Tradisional Herbs might sound new to you guys in the US, but it is actually already existed and been using since China Dynasty since thousands of years ago. Western medicine has very quick response to cure our illness, ie pain killer, cancer killer. On the other hand, the traditional chinese methods are slow but very efffective. It is goes in detail on the root cause of the illness, and strengthen your immunity. A lot of uncureable cancer managed to be cured using tradisional chinese herbs. Always have faith in it!
