Will Nick go to jail for a crime he didn't commit?

What does everybody think about this storyline and where can it possibly go? I know last year when Taylor killed Darla and kept it quiet, I felt sympathetic towards her because she was put in an impossible situatioin. It was a more realistic storyline because she accidentatlly killed Darla with her car, but due to her daughter and Hector covering up the accident she was afraid to come forward because it would put all of them in danger as accessories. But this storyline with Ridge is absolutely unrealistic. Shane tried to kill himself and we are supposed to believe that Ridge chose to cover it up because of a sentence that happened years ago that he wasn't even responsible for. And Stephanie just stood by and watched Ridge throw Shane's body over Nick's boat. And Ridge has hardly any remorse and decides to skip town just because his mother advises him to and he is willing to let his brother rot in jail?? I can't see anyone ever being in this situation and as a result I can not relate to this storyline at all. There is too much evidence pointing towards Ridge for the cops to just ignore and not pursue. I do realize in life that many times innocent people end up convicted for a crime they never committed, but in this case with this storyline and the characters involved I find it completel ridiculous and unbelievable.
