Hi kochmy, I have never eaten shark fins and am amazed at how popular they are with the Chinese. There is a big problem here in Australia with our northern Asian neighbours invading our waters and "fishing" for these. What are the artificial ones made out of? It could be an interesting solution to the problem.

Hi Urbangirl, The material used in this artificial shark fins are: 1)The extract of the shark cartilage. 2)The gelatin(The abstraction of pig skin) 3)Alginic aid sodium(Seaweed) 4)Water. This Artificial "Sanchi" is quite safe because all the ingredients used for it satifactory cleared a good additive standard of the food sanitation. They passed the act and test of the Public Health Center. Possible to market it into your country?

Hi Oh I see shark cartilage is actually used so it's not really "artificial" shark. I think fishing for sharks is banned here In Australia now and that there's illegal fishing going on by our Asian neighbours. So I am sure the Asian restaurants here are using the "extract" and not the real shark fin. I have eaten shark before though (it used to be used for fish and chips).

Hi, It seems like the product is not 100% artificial as it is still contain the shark cartilage extract.I think most of the restaurant still using it to reduce the cost.Let say 70/30.70% artificial 30% real shark fins.I don't know whether it does help to reduce the hunting of shark.
