I just read about this yesterday. There are websites where you can register your house as a vacation house and look at other peoples vacaction homes and do a house exchange. I think you have to pay a yearly fee to be registered on one of these websites. I live in an apartment right now so I couldn't do this. But if we ever buy a house I think this would be a pretty cool idea to be able to travel for pretty cheap. The only thing is I'm not sure I would be comfortable thinking about what people may have done in my bed. Here is the website if anyone wants to check this out http://www.digsville.com . Would anyone here consider doing anything like this?

I wouldn't want strangers in my home, going through my things. I'm sure they wouldn't take care of things as well as I do. I wouldn't want to stay in their house either, because I wouldn't know what to expect. If I had friends who were like me somewhat, I might not mind trading houses. I don't think anyone would want to come here, because there's not much to do. If I lived in a vacation spot, I wouldn't mind running a B&B, I think something like that would be fun.

I did know there are sites that specialize on home exchange. Overall I find the idea great, as it maximizes the resources so to speak (usually while you go in a vacation your house stays empty and no one uses it). I would really love to go on such an exchange. The only problem is that I am a bit afraid about what kind of people will live in my home and whether they'll be considerate enough to my furniture and stuff. I'd hate to get a bunch or party people and come back to a wrecked house. But there were a way to make sure that I'll get my house back in the same state it was when I left then I'd definitely want to try :)

The Holiday, a movie I recently watched was about two women that switched homes. It worked well for them, but I wouldn't exchange homes. I would be concerned that there would be damage and missing items when I came back to my home.
