advertising via flyer distribution

i have two grouses against flyer distribution. 1) it messes up my living space. there are always people who try to stuff flyers on my front gate handle, between the grills, below my door. 2) it kills trees. ok so a lot of other printing i do kills trees, but this is useless (at least to me) wastage! i know flyer distribution creates a lot of employment for those who cannot get regular jobs. however, increasingly I've noticed that foreigners are the ones doing this. for those who distribute flyers face to face at busy train stations, they also create an obstruction, but slightly less intrusive than those who try to talk to you. personally, sometimes i will take a flyer just to help the person distributing. sometimes the person doing it looks really old and needy. then i will take one so that his or her job ends earlier. but mostly this is a terrible form of advertising for things 90% of those who see it don't need.

I agree on both points you have pointed out, especially on the saving mother earth. When I think harder about it, I do understand that there doesn't seem to be a better way of solving this unless there's a complete change of mindsets from people. So this practice is going to continue for years to come.
