Judgements made

Well, I've had someone question whether I am really blind or not here on MyLot. I am registered blind, not that it matters, well it shouldn't matter. I guess some people just think of blind as totally blind and not the varying degrees in between. I honestly don't know how I feel about this judgement made. Guess I'm just suprised. So for anyone else wanting to question it - I use a programme that magnifies the screen for me as well as a programme that reads the words on the screen.

Hey sweety you are right people should not judge you and I am sorry if people have upset you! For anyone who has questioned that you can still see a bit are you blind I hope they never have to experience how difficult life is in your situation sweety! I am also glad to see you standing up for yourself - even though you shouldn't have to! xxx

Thanks mummymo, I think I just rather find it annoying that someone decided to question it. I know alot of people do, just unexpected. I decided I didn't want this person as one of my 'MyLot' friends anymore either. I think people should just be accepted for who they are :) Standing up for myself is the easy part I find :) Hope you're recovering nicely pal! xxx

That's just wrong, Hook. My roomie is legally blind as well. She can see a computer screen (tho she couldn't see mylots easily since she just uses the screen availablity to enlarge the print.) She can NOT see her toes, to the end of the hood of a car or across the room in any kind of clarity (I have to check her feet because she's diabetic.) She also has NO color vision she only has rods for night & low light vision, no cones for color. She is extreamly sensitive to light & can't see when its bright because the chemicals that give us color vision cause the rods in her eyes to become overwhelmed & all she sees is "bright" and it is painful.
She fakes it well & when she is familure with an area can get around as well as a sighted person, some people forget or don't know that she's as low visioned as she is. She likes that, but sometimes it does come back & "bite" her.

Like your roomie I can manage quite well. That is until the sun comes out as if it's too bright I can't see very well at all. I lost alot of the function of my rods and cones due to my RP and it does make it difficult. I still have some central vision and make good use of what I have. I also use alot of tech devices to help me along so that I can manage things better :) Some people are just unthinking.

One of the things I love and admire about you pal is that you stand up for yourself , People are to quick to judge and criticize others , I think you are a very strong minded person and you have never let your disability take you down , you remind me so much of Ross , both stubborn but lovely with it , God Bless pal xx

I sympathize with you on the whole judging thing. I happen to be a six foot tall man with long blond hair and everyone sees me as a loser just because I have long hair. But there are people everywhere we go that will judge us based on appearance and look no further. I guess the person that accused you of not being blind has never heard of a teletype or the program "Dragon speak natural". Just let them think what they want because there is no way for them to understand without actually going through the stereotyping and judging that we must endure. Remember Just smile...make them wonder what you are thinking.

My mum is registered blind so I know there are varying degrees. I think it is great that there are so many 'gadjets' now to help people. I don't know what she would do without the talking books. It is wonderful that there are now devices so that you can enjoy being on the computer as well. She is too old to be able to cope with one but she misses out on so many things she used to like doing and did not have enough time for then. I am amazed at how well some people manage.
